Position description

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Irvine is now accepting applications for a 1-year fellowship in Genitourinary (GU) pathology, starting July 2027.

The fellowship provides training in all aspects of GU pathology with opportunities for clinical research. The GU service (more than 6,000 cases annually) includes full range of neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions with special emphasis on prostate, kidney and bladder. For the Selective Surgical Pathology Fellowship with Genitourinary focus, the program provides exposure to a multi-specialized tertiary service handling about 25,000 adult specimens per year, including broad experience in gastrointestinal, breast, bone/soft tissue, lung, head and neck, gynecologic, and genitourinary pathology. The fellow participates to the sign-out of GU specimens, frozen sections and consultation cases. The position is structured for graduated responsibility to the level of junior faculty. The fellow may also take few weeks of call during the year, as an acting attending. There is active involvement in resident teaching and presenting at the bimonthly GU tumor board meetings during the fellowship. Funded research opportunities are available within the department and the fellow will be expected to present their research at national meetings.

The fellowship does not participate in the Unified Approach and recruitment timeline for surgical pathology fellowship program.
