THE POSITION

Make a difference in the lives of those we serve! The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is seeking an enthusiastic Therapeutic Activities Worker to join our activities team at Clarks Summit State Hospital, an inpatient facility certified to treat consumers with psychiatric illnesses and co-occurring disorders. In this role, you will have an opportunity to design and implement programs that foster social connections, boost confidence, and enhance the overall well-being of our consumers. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Therapeutic Activities Worker, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic programs and leisure activities for consumers. Your work will include conducting assessments of consumer psychosocial strengths and needs, formulating recommendations for treatment, and presenting them to the multidisciplinary treatment team. Additionally, you will be responsible for implementing and documenting therapeutic programs and services, as well as organizing a variety of leisure activities for consumers through regularly schedules activities. Other duties of the position involve training and educating nonprofessional staff on how to implement therapeutic recreation programs and services. This role is crucial in providing quality care and promoting the well-being of individuals through the use of recreational activities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work rotating weekends and holidays as assigned. Work hours and schedule may change as operationally necessary.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience providing therapeutic activities for individuals with physical, medical, or cognitive disabilities; or
  • A bachelor's degree with major coursework in therapeutic recreation; physical education; vocational rehabilitation; vocational education or counseling; art, music, dance, or occupational therapies; or a related human services field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
