The Salvation Army Mission Statement:

A. BASIC PURPOSE

The Aquatics Manager will oversee the overall operation and management of the aquatic facility, to include ensuring the safety of members and patrons, staffing, training, and supervising aquatic staff, developing programs and events, maintaining the aquatic facility, and adhering to all regulatory compliance expectations.

B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Oversee the daily operations of the aquatics department to include varied shifts of opening, closing and midday.

2. Ensure the cleanliness of the pools and spa to include water quality and upkeep of equipment.

3. Direct supervision and completion of daily cleaning of all locker room areas (showers, flooring, lockers and floor mats).

4. Monitor participation of all programs and make necessary adjustments based on feedback to improve programming.

5. Create a schedule of regular meetings with Leads to discuss vision, goals, program effectiveness, budget, and staff performance of the department.

6. Meet regularly with Center Director to evaluate the financial state of each program and the overall department.

7. Establish responsibility for managing the operational budget allocated for pool chemicals and ensuring the maintenance and regulatory compliance of the pump room and associated mechanical equipment.

8. Develop, manage, and build a variety of programs to fit the needs of our community, such as swim lessons, aqua aerobics, competitive swimming, and special events.

9. Collaborate with Marketing Department to create promotional materials and web content.

10. Ensure that regular preventative maintenance is performed and logged, and all defects are reported in a timely manner, items removed from usage if deemed necessary.

11. In conjunction with the Facilities Department, oversee all drainage and closure activities.

12. Partner with Maintenance Manager for repairs and calendar dates for regular inspections.

13. Full supervisory responsibilities of the Aquatics department to include the recruitment, hiring, training, evaluations, performance management and supervision of the Aquatics team - Lifeguards, Leads, Swim Instructors, and Aqua Group Instructors.

14. Conduct regularly scheduled in-service training for staff on water safety, emergency response, CPR/First Aid, and certification processes.

15. Ensure compliance of staff certifications and maintain current.

16. Provide swim instructor training to lifeguards, including how to provide parents with feedback about their child's progress.

17. Set expectations and model the behaviors of exemplary customer service to promote a welcoming environment for all.

18. Maintain Emergency Action Plan for department, updated to meet current industry standards.

19. Teach and enforce safety policies and procedures to the Aquatics Department and all Center Staff.

20. Adherence to all regulatory standards for aquatic facilities.

21. Attend special events as instructed by the Center Director.

22. Work collaboratively with other Directors, Managers and Coordinators to serve as a Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include: supporting Welcome Desk Associates, ensuring associate coverage of programs including break times, responding to member and guest inquiries, providing appropriate response to customer/associate incidents and injuries, make certain of the timely set up of events, and being physically present in the building to ensure consistency of the mission.

C. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

1. Possess significant experience working at a large public pool facility and/or waterpark.

2. Minimum of three years prior experience supervising and managing aquatic staff.

3. Understanding of how to develop, manage, and supervise aquatics programs and facilities.

4. Experience working with or have familiarity with pool mechanics, specifically pump and filtration systems.

6. Must be a person of high integrity and willing to support the mission of The Salvation Army.

7. Possess leadership skills, problem solving capabilities and the ability to maintain a positive and

professional demeanor while interacting with Kroc staff, guests, and the public.

8. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

9. Computer knowledge (Microsoft) preferred.

D. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

1. Candidate must possess the Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification upon hire or must agree as a condition of employment to obtain it within the first six months in role.

2. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.

3. Must be 21 years or older.

4. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check.

5. First Aid, CPR and AED required. If not current, must be obtained within two months of employment.

6. Instructor certification preferred.

E. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Frequent lifting of 40 pounds.

2. Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.

3. Mobility to climb, crawl, and bend.

4. Ability to reach overhead.

5. Must be able to demonstrate appropriate form in the pool and able to perform lifesaving operations in the pool.
