Department Information

Department Description
Procurement & Business Services manages and provides service support for the Procure-to-Pay process and related systems. These activities support the procurement and payment of goods and services in support of Georgia Tech's instructional, research, and public service programs. Procurement & Business Services is comprised of Purchasing, P-Card, Business Systems, Accounts Payable, Travel, Insurance & Claims, Logistics/Surplus, and Property Control.

Job Summary

The Procurement Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing goods and services necessary for the organization's operations while ensuring cost efficiency. This position involves analyzing market trends, negotiating contracts with suppliers, and maintaining effective relationships to secure high-quality products.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 - Identify potential suppliers and conduct thorough evaluations to assess their capabilities, pricing, and quality to ensure they meet the organization's requirements.

Job Duty 2 - Engage in negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable contract terms, including pricing, delivery schedules, and payment conditions.

Job Duty 3 - Create and process purchase orders efficiently, ensuring accuracy in specifications, quantities, and pricing to facilitate timely delivery of goods and services.

Job Duty 4 - Track inventory levels and usage rates to anticipate needs and prevent stockouts, ensuring that the organization has the necessary materials to operate effectively.

Job Duty 5 - Perform regular price analysis to compare costs among suppliers and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.

Job Duty 6 - Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, addressing any issues or concerns promptly to ensure a smooth procurement process.

Job Duty 7 - Generate reports on procurement activities, including spending patterns, supplier performance, and compliance with procurement policies.

Job Duty 8 - Stay informed about market trends and changes in the supply chain landscape to make informed purchasing decisions and adapt strategies accordingly.

Job Duty 9 - Collaborate with internal departments to understand their procurement needs and provide support in sourcing goods and services effectively.

Job Duty 10 - Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience.

Other Required Qualifications
Work requires following basic safety precautions. Requires lifting objects up to 25 lbs. and standing for extended periods of time.

Required Experience
4+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) or Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM)

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience.

Proposed Salary

Salary range:

Annual salary: $90,000 to $95,000

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires professional knowledge of and skill in applying business purchasing processes and practices with emphasis on procurement contract sourcing, bidding, negotiation and administration. This includes skills in communication, organization, presentation and attention to detail. Use of office and specialized computer applications and databases is required.
