EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Summary: Responsible for the administration, organization, operation and educational activities of the Department of Rehabilitation Services on both campuses. Has responsibility for maintaining a high standard of quality in cost effective patient care and fostering the growth and development of staff. Serves as official representative for the department and supervises all personnel through managers and senior staff, delegating duties to staff members as indicated. Prepares and monitors operating and capital budgets. Maintains regulatory readiness.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Develops short and long term departmental goals and innovative programs with management staff to maintain high quality services. Exercises authority to accomplish agreed upon goals.
- Establishes and maintains clinical standards of performance for all department techniques and procedures.
- Interprets and administers Hospital policies as they relate to the Department and develops policies of the Department within the framework of Hospital policies. Policies should fall within the relevant guidelines from CMS, DPH and TJC,
- Collaborates with the medical director as needed to assist with QA activities and /or clinical procedure development and approval. In collaboration with the medical director, co-chairs the Rehabilitation
Committee of the Medical Board meetings and provides the annual report to the Clinical Services Committee of the Medical Board. - Initiates positive professional attitudes, behavior and philosophy, and foster interaction of experience and knowledge within the Departments.
- Serves as the official departmental representative with respect to correspondence, interdepartmental liaison and, as necessary, liaison between the Department and the community.
- Responsible for all Human Resources aspects of the Department. Coordinates recruitment selection and appointment of necessary personnel. Responsible for management of management staff to include career development, annual goal setting, performance assessment and succession planning.
- Consults with architects, engineers and other personnel in planning for new physical facilities, purchasing of new equipment, and maintenance of the physical plant.
- Maintains regulatory readiness through ongoing compliance with CMS, DPH and Joint Commission standards and regulations. Participates, as required in ongoing audits and recommendations.
- Participates in budget (operating and capital) and business plan development. Operates department within flex adjusted budget.
- Consults with architects, engineers and other personnel in planning for new facilities, purchasing of new equipment and maintenance of the physical plant as it relates to Rehabilitation Services.
- Facilitates all Rehabilitation Services staff disciplinary issues. Assists managers with employee warnings, consults with Employee Relations as needed and/or required.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Participates in the strategic planning process for the department.
- Takes a visionary approach to the development of existing service growth and the provision of new modalities.
- Engages partners within the health care continuum to assist in managing patient/population health and reducing readmissions.
- Monitors therapist productivity and motivates staff to achieve desired targets.
- Regularly rounds on all rehabilitation areas engaging staff and rounding with purpose principles.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Holds an entry-level degree in physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech -language pathology. An advanced degree in management is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Requires a minimum of 8 to 10 years of clinical experience with increasing levels of responsibility. Must also have 5 - 7 years of supervisory/managerial experience.
LICENSURE: Must maintain a current unrestricted license in CT to practice as a physical therapist, occupational therapist or speech-language pathologist.
SPECIAL_SKILLS: Skill in six sigma training (DMAIC, LEAN, CAP, FMEA) preferred. Requires strong analytical, interpersonal, communication, leadership and organizational skill sets. COMPLEXITY: Formulates objectives, strategies and action plans to support Hospital mission; identifies, analyzes and solves problems; exercises independent judgment to make sound decisions in the absence of detailed instructions; seeks creative alternatives and encourages creative excellence in others; utilizes effective and positive communication skills (verbal and nonverbal); handles multiple priorities; displays tact and diplomacy. Ability to manage complex projects through to completion. PHYSICAL_DEMAND: Requires long stretches sitting, computer work and typing. May require off shift coverage for projects.
