Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Camden seeks a Director of Administrative Operations. Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance & Administration at Rutgers University-Camden, the Director of Administrative Operations serves to support strategic leadership, overseeing administrative functions and operational alignment across the division. This position works closely with the SR Vice Chancellor and divisional leadership to ensure that administrative systems, communications, and planning efforts support the division's strategic goals and university-wide priorities, and that divisional resources are utilized with efficiency and effectiveness from a holistic view.
The Director is responsible for developing and executing internal and external communication strategies, facilitating effective engagement with university stakeholders, community partners, and external entities, oftentimes on behalf of the SR Vice Chancellor. They will lead the planning and execution of divisional meetings, ensuring agendas and outcomes are aligned with strategic priorities, and will support the development and implementation of a formal strategic plan, if initiated.
This role also includes responsibility for producing reports, board presentation materials, and strategic documentation that support decision-making and institutional accountability. The Director will collaborate with the Senior Vice Chancellor and division directors to design and implement team-building initiatives, staff retreats, and professional development programs that foster a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing work environment. The Director of Administrative Operations will also provide leadership to administrative support staff and will frequently engage in the leadership and coordination of special projects and initiatives.
Additionally, the Director will be expected to understand, interpret, and implement university policies, ensuring compliance and consistency across divisional operations. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage complex projects, navigate diverse stakeholder relationships, and drive operational excellence.

Salary Details Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, within university policy and salary schedules, as well as departmental budgets.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, business, organizational leadership, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in administrative operations, strategic planning, project management, or organizational development.
  • Experience working in higher education or a similarly complex organizational environment preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage administrative functions across multiple units.
  • Strong understanding of university policies, procedures, and governance structures, with the ability to interpret and implement policy effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing reports, presentations, and strategic communications for diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Experience designing and facilitating team-building, professional development, and staff engagement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional teams and complex institutional projects
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and collaborative platforms (e.g., Teams, Google Workspace); familiarity with project planning tools and university systems (e.g., finance, HR, facilities) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ERP and data management systems (e.g. Workday, Banner, Peoplesoft, Oracle)
  • High level of discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information and sensitive matters.

  • Experience developing and executing communication strategies across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Familiarity with university governance, budget planning, and compliance frameworks.
  • Advanced proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Asana, Smartsheet) and collaborative platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams).
  • Experience preparing materials for executive-level presentations, board meetings, and strategic reports.
  • Strong facilitation skills for retreats, workshops, and team-building sessions.
