DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, as well as assessing the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure compliance with established safety standards. Your duties will include administering a range of vision tests, such as telebinocular assessments and color perception evaluations, to accurately determine the visual capabilities of applicants. You will also conduct knowledge examinations for both non-commercial and commercial driver licenses, ensuring that candidates have a thorough understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signage. Additionally, you will perform pre-trip, skills, and driving tests for both types of licenses, adhering to departmental guidelines. A critical aspect of your responsibilities will involve scrutinizing applications, registrations, and permits for any irregularities or signs of fraudulent activity, while also determining vehicle specifications to apply the appropriate tests. Furthermore, you will inspect motor vehicles to verify compliance with safety features, including inspection stickers, lights, and windshield wipers. Your role will extend to reviewing a wide array of documents, such as applications, birth certificates, Social Security cards, marriage certificates, court documents, proof of residency, and various immigration and citizenship papers, to confirm their authenticity. By utilizing multiple systems and databases, you will authenticate identity documents to establish an individual's identity and eligibility for a driver's license or identification card. This position will require you to identify potential fraud and take measures to prevent the creation of false identities and identity theft. You will also be responsible for processing test results and applications, issuing driver licenses and identification cards to those who meet the necessary criteria. In addition, you will provide customers with essential information regarding driver's license renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, and the procedures for obtaining a motorcycle license or a commercial driver's license (CDL), including the various restrictions and endorsements associated with each.
