Overview
DecisionPoint seeks a Front End/Human-Centered Design (HCD) Designer Lead to guide user experience design, visual interface development, and usability research for a Department of Defense (DoD) modernization program that supports Casualty and Mortuary Affairs (CMA) operations across Service branches. The HCD Designer Lead will champion user advocacy by facilitating workshops, journey mapping, and rapid prototyping to align interface design with mission workflows and stakeholder needs. This position drives the translation of user insights into intuitive, accessible, and responsive front-end solutions optimized for secure, cloud-based systems operating at multiple Impact Levels (IL2-IL5). This position is fully remote.
Duties & Responsibilities
Lead
human-centered design workshops and journey mapping sessions
to identify user needs, service touchpoints, and workflow pain points across CMA mission areas.
- Translate qualitative insights into personas, use cases, and user stories that guide interface development and modernization planning.
- Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to rapidly test concepts with stakeholders and refine design direction.
- Design and implement responsive, accessible, and mobile-ready front-end interfaces that meet DoD standards and WCAG 2.1 accessibility requirements.
- Collaborate closely with business analysts, system architects, and developers to ensure UX design aligns with system architecture, security, and performance objectives.
- Support iterative design and feedback cycles, integrating user input through focus groups, usability testing, and sprint reviews.
- Document and present UI/UX design artifacts including style guides, component libraries, and usability reports for review and approval.
- Apply human-centered and data-driven design methodologies to improve workflow efficiency, reduce cognitive load, and increase mission usability.
- Conduct A/B testing and UX performance benchmarking, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Ensure designs accommodate low-bandwidth and field conditions, optimizing for reduced image sets, caching, and limited connectivity environments.
- Contribute to the creation of in-application help tools and guided experiences to improve learnability and reduce training burden.
- Mentor junior designers and ensure design consistency across all applications and task areas.
Qualifications
Clearance Requirement:
- Must hold an active Secret clearance.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in DevSecOps, software automation, or cloud infrastructure engineering.
- Demonstrated experience supporting secure cloud-based development environments within AWS GovCloud or DoD-accredited platforms.
Technical Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline.
- Proficiency with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm).
- Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
- Familiarity with Zero Trust, RMF, and DISA STIG compliance.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and alerting tools (CloudWatch, ELK Stack, Prometheus).
- Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Experience integrating static code analysis, dependency scanning, and vulnerability management into build pipelines.
Certifications (Preferred):
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional.
- CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent DoD 8570 certification.
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Docker Certified Associate (DCA).
Skills:
- Strong collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to balance performance, scalability, and security in automated deployments.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills for both technical and executive audiences.
