About the Job

Summary of Position

Responsible for overseeing multiple research projects and managing of all operational aspects of the laboratory spanning several years. Manages resources associated with federal funded grants. Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise to competently carry out genome engineering (CRISPRs) experiments on human stem cells, develop stem cell differentiation systems and generate libraries for next-generation sequencing independently, with guidance in only the most complex, solution-resistant situations. Assists in the mentoring, training and supervising of undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral associates and laboratory assistants.
Possess in-depth knowledge in molecular biology, maintenance and differentiation cultures of human and mouse stem cells as well as of library preparation for next generation sequencing. Perform research experiments including complex laboratory testing, experiments and analysis following established protocols. Assist in the mentoring and training of undergraduate and graduate students.

Assist in the supervising, mentoring and training of research scientist (Researcher 4), postdoctoral associate as well as the graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory.

Essential Functions

15% Assist in the design and implementation of complex research projects and experimental procedures.
25% Conduct research experiments in an independent manner.
10% Manage the resources and daily operations of the laboratory.
10% Establish and maintain a cell line inventory ensuring proper storage and cryopreservation.
10% Establish, maintain and restock the laboratory inventory.
10% Establish, maintain and update the laboratory operation procedures (SOPs).
10% Optimize tissue culture and differentiation protocols of mouse and human stem cells.
10% Assist in the supervising, mentoring and training of research scientist (Researcher 4), postdoctoral associate as well as the graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory.

The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology; and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular biophysics. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $31.34 - $32.00/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
