Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Research Associate to support the characterization, formulation, and stability testing of vaccine candidates. This role includes routine biophysical and biochemical testing of drug substances (DS) and drug products (DP), method development for protein and nanoparticle analysis, and preparation of technical documentation for decision-making. The successful candidate will generate high-quality data and clearly communicate findings to project managers and technical leads.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and exploratory biophysical and biochemical assays, including:
  • Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) for size and aggregation
  • Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (DSF) for thermal stability
  • UV spectroscopy and BCA assay for protein quantification
  • SDS-PAGE, native PAGE, and Western blotting for purity and identity
  • Conduct formulation screening and stability testing for DS and DP under various stress and storage conditions
  • Contribute to method development and optimization for protein and nanoparticle characterization
  • Analyze and summarize data in a clear, concise manner for presentation to project managers
  • Assist in writing, reviewing, and editing technical reports, SOPs, and experimental protocols
  • Maintain well-organized and traceable experimental records and instrument logs
  • Support general lab operations, including:
  • Routine housekeeping
  • Inventory management and ordering of supplies
  • Performing literature reviews to support experimental design and protocol improvements

Preferred but Not Required:

  • Familiarity with binding assays such as Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) or Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI)

Qualifications:

  • B.S. with 3+ years or M.S. with 1+ year of hands-on laboratory experience in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field
  • Solid understanding of protein structure, folding, stability, and formulation principles
  • Demonstrated proficiency in DLS, DSC, DSF, UV spectroscopy, BCA, SDS-PAGE, and Western blot
  • Experience with analytical method development and data interpretation
  • Demonstrated verbal and written skills in clearly communicating technical and regulatory information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and GraphPad Prism for data analysis and reporting
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
The annual base salary (or hourly wage) for this position falls within the range of $87,650.00 - $113,950.00. However, the actual base pay offered may vary based on several individualized factors, such as market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Novavax offers a base salary, annual bonus, equity grants, professional career development/growth opportunities, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, Rx, STD, LTD, Life, Optional Life, 401(k) plan.
