Position Title: RECEIVING INSPECTOR

Position Summary: Receiving Inspectors are responsible to safely inspect, verify, and keep records of incoming shipments and certification documents.

Reports To: Shipping & Receiving Team Leader

Personnel: Not applicable.

Accountabilities: Perform receiving inspections within the guidelines of MTM's purchase order and the Manufacturing Routing to ensure all requirements for the shipped item(s) have been met. Conduct inspections in a timely manner setting appropriate priorities on items that are urgently needed on the shop floor. Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly work area and to operate in a safe manner.

Authorities: Determine the appropriate steps receiving inspections are to be executed and completed while staying within the procedures and work instructions set forth by MTM's Quality System.

Duties:

  • Operate fork truck and overhead crane.
  • Unload incoming items off trucks documenting any shipping damage
  • Unpack and examine incoming shipments for quantity, color, material type, coating, any marking requirements, etc. to verify information against bills of lading, packing slips, and MTM purchase orders.
  • Ensure all items are received with required certifications and test reports as specified by the MTM purchase order.
  • Verify information contained on all certifications and test reports adheres to MTM's Quality System and is accurate by checking against any specifications referenced on the MTM purchase order.
  • Review work orders, blueprints, or other specifications and confer with engineers, purchasing agents, and other personnel to determine product dimensions and specifications.
  • Measure dimensions and verify locations of holes, grooves, and other points, using precision measuring instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and dial indicators.
  • Inspect and calibrate precision measuring instruments using calibrating equipment.
  • Report any failures to meet MTM purchase order requirements into the nonconformance system.
  • Process items into the computer system ensuring that accurate traceability information is entered for applicable items.
  • Scan and link certification and test report documents to the item received into the computer system.
  • Coordinate with Material Handlers and other MTM personnel to ensure that received and acceptable items get moved out of the receiving area to its next routed work center.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly work area.

Job Qualification Requirements:

Educational Experience - High School diploma or GED at a minimum; Between 6 months and 1 year of trade school or vocational education preferred.

Experience - Previous inspection experience is desired but not required.

Physical Demands - The employee is required to:

  • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor
  • exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
  • exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Certification Required - Fork truck and crane certification.

Visual Acuity - Near acuity and accommodation are required for inspection operations, random visual checks, reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts and machinery.

Hearing Ability - Ability to communicate with employees and delivery personnel.

Working Conditions - The employee is subject to:

  • high noise levels from operating machines
  • physical hazards from moving equipment and production components
  • breathing fumes, dust and mist
  • skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids.

The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
