Description

We are seeking a Junior Test Automation Engineer to join our QA automation team. The role focuses on writing and maintaining automated tests using Katalon Studio; experience with Selenium or similar frameworks is acceptable. This is an entry-level, hands-on position that works closely with developers and QA to ensure software quality through reliable, repeatable test automation.

This position can be worked remote, but strong preference will be given to candidates local to Newport News, VA.

Key Responsibilities


  • Develop, run, and maintain automated test scripts in Katalon Studio for web and API test cases.
  • Translate manual test cases and acceptance criteria into automated tests.
  • Troubleshoot and debug failing tests, triage issues with development and QA teams.
  • Integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline and monitor test runs.
  • Create and maintain test data, test suites, and reporting artifacts.
  • Execute cross-browser tests and validate application behavior across supported environments.
  • Participate in test planning, regression cycles, and sprint ceremonies.
  • Document test cases, test results, and automation patterns; suggest improvements to test strategy.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelors Degree and 2+ years of experience, work can be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 1+ years of QA or software testing experience, including exposure to test automation.
  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI
  • Hands-on experience or coursework using Katalon Studio, Selenium, or comparable automation frameworks.
  • Proficient in at least one scripting or programming language used for automation (Java, Groovy, JavaScript, or Python).
  • Familiarity with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and RESTful APIs.
  • Basic understanding of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail in test design and debugging.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Prior experience integrating Katalon or Selenium tests with CI systems and test reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of test data management, mocking/stubbing, or API contract testing.
  • Experience with version control systems, especially Git.
  • Familiarity with performance or security testing basics.
  • ISTQB or other QA-related certification.
