  • Experience: participation in academic research in science or work experience in logistics or management

Position Summary
The Research Associate will participate in research designed to evaluate the financial and social costs of not replacing dental amalgams with materials that do not contain the toxic metal mercury. Specifically this person will employ data from the CDC's biennial National Health and Nutrition Evaluation Survey ( NHANES) and similar datasets from Europe and South Korea to assess the association of Hg exposure from amalgams with chronic inflammation as measured by the C-reactive protein ( CRP) and leukocyte ratios, and possible exacerbation of chronic inflammation when coupled with smoking tobacco and/or consuming alcohol.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies


  • Knowledge: Statistics including Bayesian, epidemiology, elementary human biology

  • Skills: demonstrated experience in applying the above knowledge either in an academic research project or working as staff in a governmental public health agency or in a private or public hospital's infection control unit.

  • Abilities/Competencies. Ability to think in quantitative terms and to manage complex, dynamic information. Know to ask questions when they do not understand something. Understand the concept of making and testing hypotheses.

PREPARING AND SUBMITTING A MANUSCRIPT FOR PEER REVIEW: 1. Pre-review by co-authors and other knowledgeable colleagues in related and unrelated disciplines ("friendly fire" ). 2. Finalize the manuscript with their suggested revisions of text, data tables and figures, citations and bibliography, and supporting material. 3. Submit to the appropriate journal in its required formats for text and data etc. 4. Make final revisions after anonymous peer reviews and the editor's decision. 5. Carefully read and edit the galley proof of the article in printed journal format.
