Job Family Description

Maintenance/production personnel support the operational success of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities, buildings, systems, and shops. Professionals in these roles are responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of equipment, machinery, and production processes to meet quality, safety, and productivity standards.

Discipline Description

Maintenance support personnel provide assistance and coordination for the maintenance and upkeep of equipment, facilities, and infrastructure. Maintenance support personnel may perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment, including inspection and repair, manage inventory, and ensure maintenance activities comply with safety standards. Maintenance support personnel may perform routine calibrations of equipment and instruments to support facility operations and monitoring. They may perform shop fabrication and machining of equipment to support facility operations.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Maintenance support personnel provide assistance and coordination for the maintenance and upkeep
of equipment, facilities, and infrastructure. Maintenance support personnel may perform routine
maintenance tasks on equipment, including inspection and repair, manage inventory, and ensure
maintenance activities comply with safety standards. Maintenance support personnel may perform
routine calibrations of equipment and instruments to support facility operations and monitoring. They
may perform shop fabrication and machining of equipment to support facility operations.
Work from work orders, drawings, design documents and procedures to perform machining activities based on skills and knowledge attained from training and/or previous experience. Obtains guidance from supervision when the conditions warrant, but usually works under minimal supervision. Works in self-directed/peer decision environment to plan sequence
of manufacturing operations to achieve desired results. Attains necessary knowledge and skills to program, set up, and operate CNC equipment and CAD-CAM Systems in assigned and/or designated shops. Operate fork lifts, hoists and material handling equipment. Perform advanced incidental rigging of material and equipment. Inspect and/or test parts and equipment to determine functional condition. Direct the actions of less qualified machinists with complex tasks. Assist with the qualification of less qualified or lower grade level machinists. Assist supervision and management with
understanding of problems and suggest possible solutions. Perform administrative functions such as work order processing, time keeping and data entry and other administrative functions as needed to perform job. Meet physical requirements for the essential duties, which include working around rotating equipment, being able to lift up to 50 pounds, prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and twisting.

Required Qualifications

* Associate's degree in relevant field plus completion of applicable certification or on-the-job training plus at least 1.5 years of experience (YOE) in an applicable role, OR High school diploma plus completion of applicable certification or on-the-job training plus at least three years of experience (YOE) in an applicable role
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

Machinist for a minimum of two years, OR Provide proof of Journeyman Machinist capability through apprenticeship (or equivalent) training and two years machinist experience. Must be qualified
to set up and operate drill presses, lathes, milling machines, and surface grinders. Must be able to independently demonstrate knowledge and experience by successfully completing a performance test of a predefined machined

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
