Who You Are:

Versar Global Solutions is seeking a part-time, on call Project Archaeologist-Monitor to support our cultural resources operations in South Texas. This position is specifically designated for a FEM-qualified archaeological monitor to oversee levee reconstruction activities in Brownsville, Cameron County, Texas.

This is a funded position for the duration of the project contract. Continued employment with Versar beyond the completion of this project will depend on contract availability and performance.

The position is expected to begin in fall 2025 and extend for approximately 24 months, with periods of intermittent downtime. It is anticipated that reconstruction efforts will extend into 2026 and 2027. During down periods, additional work may be available on other regional projects. This role is focused on cultural resource monitoring in compliance with federal and state regulations. Pay will be commensurate with experience.

What You'll Do:

  • Coordinate and monitor ongoing construction of canal/levee/floodplain remediation.
  • Ability to coordinate with senior staff on a daily, weekly basis.
  • Ability to identify cultural deposits and oversee artifact analysis.
  • Carry out post-field technical writing.
  • Inspect ground disturbing activities, ensuring erosion control plans are properly implemented, as needed, and a working knowledge of wildlife species in the project area.
  • Experience with GPS.
  • Keep daily logs and field notes.
  • Participate in weekly status meetings and providing general administrative support as assigned.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree required in anthropology, history, or related field.
  • Archaeological experience in south Texas or greater Southwest is required.
  • Past monitoring experience.
  • Ability to interact with construction crews.
  • Ability to work with others, including regulatory agencies such as USFWS and USACE.
  • Read and apply permit conditions, pertinent regulations, and excellent communication skills.
  • Proven leadership abilities.
  • Independent, ability to work remotely, and organized.
  • Proficient in GIS, Excel, Microsoft Word.
  • Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Must possess and maintain an active and valid driver's license without restrictions.
  • Willingness to commit to the life of the project.
  • Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen.
  • Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
  • Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate's start date.

Location Requirements

The successful candidate will relocate to Brownsville, Texas for the duration of the project. Lodging provided for seven days of the week. Per-diem for days worked. Field efforts are expected to cover up to 24 months with seasonal irrigation shutdowns. Extensions into 2026 and 2027 are expected. Some travel to El Paso, Texas is required.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $25 - $29 hourly
