If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking a Section Supervisor for the Industrial Security Team (SECD/ZSO) to lead and manage the team responsible for collateral security operations across the Lab. This individual will oversee the Laboratory's self-inspection program, administrative inquiries, DD254 reviews and development, and the creation and execution of Lab-wide security policies.

This role requires strong leadership and people management skills, as well as deep understanding of DoD industrial security compliance standards. The Section Supervisor will ensure the team delivers efficient, high-quality support in alignment with SECD's mission and the Lab's broader strategic priorities.

As the Section Supervisor for Industrial Security, you will:
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and mentorship to the Industrial Security team.
  • Lead internal audits and surveys across satellite FSO offices to assess and reinforce compliance with the NISPOM, DCSA regulations, and internal Lab practices.
  • Oversee performance management for the section-set objectives, provide coaching and feedback, conduct performance evaluations, and support staff growth and development.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on industrial security topics including administrative inquiries into the loss or compromise of classified information, DD254s and self-inspections
  • Communicate and report to the Facility Security Officer (FSO) on a regular, independent basis to advise of evolving security needs.
  • In conjunction with the FSO, develop and maintain SECD-wide industrial security policies, ensuring alignment with DoD guidance.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal partners such as the Designated Security Representatives, ISSM teams, security administration group, physical security group and program security groups.
  • Lead section hiring efforts-draft requisitions, screen applicants, and make hiring recommendations.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a Bachelors degree and 4 years experience or a high school diploma and 7 years of experience in the Security career field with emphasis in the area of Industrial Security specialist.
  • Prior formal and informal leadership or supervisory experience and a proven ability to manage, coach, and support a team.
  • A strong working knowledge of the 32 CFR Part 117, National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM).
  • Proficiency with basic word processing and other computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service to motivate, lead, and manage staff and to effectively interact and work with all levels of Laboratory staff, sponsors, customers, and representatives of external organizations.
  • Demonstrated prioritization, organization, planning, teamwork, problem-solving, and negotiation skills
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • Experience with DCSA inspections and/or NISPOM self-inspection programs.
  • Previous experience as an FSO/AFSO.
  • Previous APL supervisory experience.
  • Industrial Security Professional (ISP) and/or Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC).
  • Proficiency with SIMS, NISS, DISS, OPSLink, and ServiceNow.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
