POSITION SPECIFICS

A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Interfacial Phenomena Laboratory (IPHEL) in the Mechanical Engineering Department at The Pennsylvania State University. This position is to work on the development of integrated thermal management for 3-D heterogeneously integrated communications and computing electronics under the supervision of Prof. Bladimir Ramos Alvarado.

Job Description:

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research on the thermal management of highly packed electronic devices for computing and/or communications. It is expected to focus on macroscale heat transfer processes.

  • Develop computational models and experimental protocols to characterize the performance of innovative cooling technologies for 3-D heterogeneously integrated electronic devices.

  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

  • Work in a highly collaborative environment in which electrical engineers, material/data scientists, and thermal engineers will collaborate to develop the next generation of microelectronics manufacturing.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a strong focus on heat transfer by the start date. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in electronics cooling.

  • Expertise in computational fluid dynamics, finite element modeling, and coding in general. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in ANSYS Fluent modeling.

  • Expertise in experimental protocol development and instrumentation for heat transfer. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in microfluidics cooling.

  • Excellent writing, communication, and teamwork skills.
