Job Description
Summary The Office of Leadership & Service is seeking a collaborative, student-centered professional to fill the role of Coordinator for Service Programs. This position will serve as the primary advisor to signature student programs such as Mizzou Alternative Breaks (MAB), Tigers for a Cause (T4C), and Caring for Columbia (C4C). They will also serve as the primary contact and be responsible for strategically planning and implementing volunteer opportunities for students through events such as Step Forward Day, the Volunteer Fair, and Service Showcase. This position will create and implement innovative programming and initiatives in the areas of civic engagement, leadership and service. This position also assists with assigned programs and events within the Division of Student Affairs. Essential Functions
- Develop, coordinate, and assess programs/events/activities in support of the mission of the Department of Student Engagement & Leadership
- Serve as the primary advisor for the Mizzou Alternative Breaks, Tigers for a Cause, Caring for Columbia (student programs); facilitate one-on-one meetings, trainings, and other necessary steps to ensure programmatic success and student development
- Facilitate training and development opportunities that may include, but are not limited to, risk management, leadership development, event planning, and advisor resources that are necessary to support student leaders
- Maintain knowledge of service learning and community engagement best practices, and implement relevant strategies in line with the division's strategic plan
- Use assessment data and feedback from students and university stakeholders to continuously improve programs to meet student needs
- Develop and implement marketing strategies for assigned programs in conjunction with the Division's Marketing and Communications team
- Work with students and staff to create fundraising and sponsorship opportunities to support various programs
- Manage and track volunteer and philanthropic hours for all students at Mizzou, which correlates with the Service Medallion program
- Develop and implement strategies for risk reduction and management in programming areas and ensure programs and events are in compliance with university policies and procedures
- Work collaboratively with university stakeholders to develop programs that meet the needs of students, student staff, faculty, professional staff, and community representatives, including but not limited to Community Engaged Learning, Advancement, and MUPD.
- Recruit, advise, and train student leadership
- Promote and manage credit-bearing courses offered through the Office of Community Engaged Learning, ensuring they align with the semester training provided to Mizzou Alternative Break participants and site leaders
- Support Welcome Week efforts by contributing to the leadership development, training, and coordination of Welcome Week Leaders
- May supervise graduate or undergraduate student workers
- Assist with a variety of university programs sponsored by the Department of Student Engagement & Leadership (e.g., family weekend, Summer Welcome, campus activities)
- Serve on departmental and divisional committees, as needed
- As with all positions, other duties and responsibilities added are expected to enhance and maintain departmental and Student Affairs missions.
Shift
Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department, especially during the weeks and weekends of Mizzou Alternative Break trips. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Education, Business, Journalism, Communication, or Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a similar field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Non-Profit Management, Public Policy, Social Work, Business Administration, or a related area is strongly desired.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Experience in working and managing teams of students.
- Experience in managing a budget and generating income.
- Experience in leadership and/or service programming.
- Strong interpersonal skills that would allow for frequent and comfortable conversations with administrators, staff, faculty, and students.
- Advanced organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
- Experience in managing programs involving high levels of risk.
- Demonstrated commitment to student development/student learning.
- Ability to create and maintain collaborative partnerships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Range: $18.87-$23.00 per hour, paid biweekly GGS/PAT Level: 008 University Title: Student Service Coordinator I Internal applicants can determine their university title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.

Physical Requirements
- Position requires sitting, standing, and walking.
- Must be able to bend, squat, and reach on occasion.
- Capable of lifting, moving, and transporting materials of light to medium weights (25-50 lbs.)
- Duties imply the use of a computer and other office technology involving fine finger movements.
- Communicate orally and in writing with various audiences.
