Steamfitter Welder
Department of Facilities Management
$48.89 Per Hour


Job Summary: Install, maintain and service HVAC systems, including all types of heating, cooling, pressurization and ventilation equipment, boilers and chillers, rooftop units and built-in systems along with any other supporting infrastructure such as piping systems, pumps, and ductwork. Install, maintain, and service HVAC controls such as, but not limited to, building automation systems, control panels, room sensors, and thermostats. This person should be able to but is not currently required to be able to weld. Must be able to work in all Milwaukee County facilities including secured detention/high-security facilities and work in areas with sensitive information and assets.



Job Responsibilities:



  • Daily operation and monitoring of all building environmental systems. Interaction with Building Automation System (BAS). Chiller seasonal start-up/shut-down and chilled water system/cooling tower maintenance. Boiler seasonal start-up, shut down and regular maintenance. Steam supply/condensate return maintenance. Daily monitoring, adjustments, and repair on temperature control systems, thermostats, and air compressor systems.
  • Reactive work includes, hot and cold calls, minor steam system/condensate leaks, valve replacement and/or repair.
  • Emergency work for problems with no heat or cooling, major steam system/condensate leaks and equipment breakdowns.
  • Completes all administrative tasks needed for work order systems, ordering materials and asset management.
  • Will be part of special projects for construction and capital project assistance.
  • Perform general duties as assigned and assists across departments as needed
  • May be required to carry County-provided On Call phone on a rotating basis



Required Education, License and Experience:



  • Resident of the State of WI
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as email, and word processing.
  • Completion of either a state recognized Journeyman Steamfitter or Refrigeration Mechanic classification with at least (5) years of work experience
  • Applicants must successfully undergo a criminal history background check to establish security clearance for Milwaukee County facilities and maintain this clearance throughout employment.



Preferred:



  • Troubleshooting and repairing experience preferred
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling License


  • ASOPE Facility Operating Engineer 1st Class or Power Plant Operational Engineer 3rd Class or NIULPE 4th Class Engineer license



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


Ability to lift, carry up to 50 lbs. and push, and pull up to 75 lbs. Knowledge and use of service vehicles, pick-up trucks, forklifts/trucks, and HVAC trade hand and power tools.
