Duties, Responsibilities & Other

    Evaluate market conditions and develop annual business plans to grow surveying and mapping services and revenue throughout KCI's Mid-Atlantic and Northeast footprint.
  • Develop an annual budget to support the Strategic and Business Plans, revenue/profitability targets and achieve operations excellence. The budget should be based on established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that serve as the foundation for operational targets.
  • Responsible for overseeing the monthly and year-end profit and loss statements for the Service Line including reviewing project and financial reports, approving general and administrative expenses, and recommending capital purchases, among other duties.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing strategies to drive the growth of the organization and ensure the success of the team. This individual will provide leadership and mentorship to the team, support their professional growth, and help them achieve their growth goals.
  • Recruit and develop qualified professionals to support and grow the team at multiple levels (technical staff, management and business leaders).
  • Provide direction, mentoring, and leadership to the entire team. This includes regularly visiting with leadership, employees, and projects to ensure the successful execution of company initiatives related to growth, strategy, project management, and employee matters.
  • Collaborate with other Service Line Leaders including Transportation, Construction Management, Water & Environment, Site/Civil and Facilities to ensure alignment and maximize growth opportunities across the Professional Services team. This includes regular communication to support existing multi-discipline projects and to cooperatively develop new clients and expand the project portfolio.
  • Encourage and facilitate cross-functional collaboration to achieve team goals, including technical training for employees, resource sharing and management.
  • Responsible for overseeing major proposal efforts, including the management of scope, schedule, quality and fee.
  • Ensure that company culture, policies, and procedures are consistently implemented throughout the Service Line.
  • Maintain adherence with KCI's Quality Management Plan and Safety Program.

Position requirements:

  • 15+ years' experience leading a utilities engineering or surveying and mapping organization. Experience with surveying and subsurface utilities engineering preferred, but not required.
  • Professional Survey or Professional Engineer registration(s) (PLS/RLS/PSM/PE) is preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (surveying, engineering, or similar) or equivalent experience is required; advanced degree and professional licensure/certification is preferred.
  • Proven track record of success in a similar role, strong leadership and management skills, and excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to independently apply fundamental engineering, environmental, land planning, and survey concepts.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders and ability to lead and contribute to business development efforts.
  • This in not a remote position. The ideal candidate for this job should be based near a KCI office within the Mid-Atlantic or Northeast Region.
  • Regular travel throughout the Region is required.

Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field (AEC Industry) and minimum of 15 years of related professional experience, or 19 years of equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven track record of leadership success in the AEC industry, with a minimum of 15 years of experience including organizational leadership and business management or related roles within the professional services industry.
  • Proficiency in applying fundamental engineering or related concepts independently to the Service Line they oversee.
  • Effective organizational and time management abilities to manage various projects and meet deadlines proficiently.
  • Proven capability to establish and nurture relationships with clients and stakeholders, along with a capacity to actively contribute to business development initiatives.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on driving growth and achieving business objectives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong financial acumen, with the ability to analyze financial data, develop budgets, and drive financial performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • In-depth knowledge of technical aspects of the AEC industry and current trends.
  • Strong negotiation skills to manage contracts, partnerships, and client relations.
  • Ability to lead and manage change within the Service Line, including implementing new processes and systems.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution to manage and resolve disputes within teams and with clients.
  • Willingness to travel as needed within the designated region and occasionally nationally.
  • Active membership in relevant professional organization and industry groups.

Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:

  • Master's/ MBA preferred.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:

  • Successful completion of the KCI PM Training and Contract Training or ability to do so within six months (for new hires.)

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Preferred:

  • Professional license or certification within the field of expertise preferred.
