The Senior Systems Engineer, End-User Computing ( EUC) is a strategic technology leader responsible for designing and advancing GW's endpoint and virtual computing ecosystem to support the university's academic and administrative operations. This role ensures that faculty, staff, and students have secure, reliable, and user-friendly experiences across classrooms, offices, and remote environments. As the institution's foremost expert in this discipline, the engineer will architect resilient, future-ready solutions that enhance productivity, collaboration, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

This position defines the long-term strategy for endpoint and virtual computing technologies and owns the architecture of platforms such as Microsoft Intune, Jamf Pro, and Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop. The engineer ensures these systems are resilient, secure, optimized for automation, and support the overall digital workplace strategy.

The engineer serves as the Tier 3 escalation point for endpoint-related incidents, providing advanced troubleshooting and systemic fixes for issues escalated from Tiers 1 and 2. This includes diagnosing complex problems and implementing solutions that prevent recurrence.

The role partners with IT Service Delivery, Server Management, Cloud Computing, Networking, IT Security, Identity & Access Management, Audiovisual (AV) Engineering, Unified Communications & Collaboration ( UCC), Student Computing Labs & Printing, and other teams inside and outside GW IT to deliver integrated solutions and maintain compliance with zero-trust security principles, data privacy, and access governance.

The engineer drives innovation by designing next-generation endpoint solutions, including automated provisioning and AI-driven support capabilities. They also manage projects and initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with institutional goals. A strong focus on user experience ensures that technology reduces friction and enhances productivity for all users. Regularly briefs senior IT and university leadership on endpoint strategy, emerging technologies, and progress of high-impact initiatives.

The role implements experience-level metrics to monitor device health, application inventory, usage reports, and user satisfaction, driving continuous improvement. The engineer also provides technical leadership and mentorship, fostering a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing. Performs other related duties as assigned to support the mission of GW IT.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 7 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 5 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience architecting and managing enterprise endpoint management and VDI platforms (e.g., Microsoft Intune and Configuration Manager, Jamf Pro, Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop).
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows, macOS/Linux, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Active Directory/Entra, and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in hybrid environments.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) to streamline endpoint management and provisioning.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven support tools and predictive analytics for endpoint health and user experience.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts, zero-trust architecture, endpoint detection and response (EDR/XDR), and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, HIPAA, FERPA).
  • Experience managing ticketing queues, mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional initiatives and presenting technical strategy to senior leadership.

  • Proven ability to evaluate emerging technologies and translate them into actionable strategies.
  • Experience managing large-scale endpoint transformation projects using Agile or ITIL frameworks. Strong documentation and change control practices to support enterprise IT operations.
  • Certifications in Microsoft, JAMF, Azure, AWS, or similar.

Hiring Range $92,790.58 - $150,696.60
