In addition, the ideal candidate will be scheduled to work on Fridays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

About the Department:


The Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University is seeking a part-time Admissions Assistant to support the JD Admissions Office.

About the Position:


The Admissions Assistant serves as the first point of contact for the JD Admissions Office, welcoming visitors and supporting daily operations. This part-time, in-person role includes front desk coverage, administrative support, and assistance with admissions events and communications.


The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The role is scheduled for 18-25 hours per week, within the Admissions Office hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Availability on Fridays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM is required.


Responsibilities:



  • Serves as the first point of contact by greeting and assisting prospective students, applicants, admitted students, and visitors;
  • Answers and directs office phone calls and manages the Admissions Office email inboxes;
  • Provides administrative support, including scheduling meetings for the Associate Dean, maintaining calendars, and processing purchase orders, vouchers, and invoices;
  • Assists with admissions events and daily office operations, including supply purchases and event preparation;
  • Enters and maintains data in admissions databases and prepare related spreadsheets, reports, and correspondence; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the Admissions Office.


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree required;
  • Experience in a customer-facing administrative or office support role;
  • Professional demeanor and ability to serve as the first point of contact for visitors to the Law School;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and stay organized;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); and
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Previous experience working in higher education, particularly in admissions or student services;
  • Familiarity with student information systems or admissions databases (e.g., Slate, Unite, or similar);
  • Experience coordinating events or managing front desk operations;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment in handling inquiries; and
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
