Under supervision of PI, work semi-independently to direct research projects. Learns new methods quickly and effectively executes protocols involving a variety of routine and non-routine experiments. Studies may use recombinant proteins, in vitro cell-based models, and/or mice and analyze these by using a wide range of approaches. May also identify new techniques or develop modifications to existing techniques. Records, transcribes, calculates, and analyzes data using statistical techniques. Maintains and regularly updates records of key laboratory reagents, including plasmids and cell lines. May be responsible for orienting and training new staff.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Coordinates the implementation and progression of the studies related to gastrointestinal barrier function, mechanisms of regulation, and impact on health and disease. 2. Designs experiments with substantial independence. 3. Maintains detailed experimental records. 4. Collaborates with and supports other lab members. 5. Performs necessary background investigation in lab records and the scientific literature to allow data interpretation. 6. Organizes and maintains records related to DNA constructs, cell line, and other key tools. 7. Assist PI or Research Manager with preparation for presentation, written published articles, and funding applications. 8. Responsible for training, orienting, and overseeing staff. 9. Present data at and participate actively in lab meetings. 10. All other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS BS in biological/physical science required. Must have at least one year experience in a related research setting. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: * Knowledge of research protocols. * Sound analytical and organizational skills * High degree of computer literacy. * Requires excellent oral and written communication skills * Must be able to logically and effectively structure tasks and set priorities. * Ability to identify potential problems and trouble-shoot solutions. * Ability to work with mice * Must be able to analyze and present data.
