Job Description - Student Intern, Accounting

Position Description

Tucson Electric Power, one of Tucson's premier employers, is seeking a Student Intern to join our accounting department. This internship provides valuable hands-on experience in accounting while contributing to meaningful projects that support our financial operations. The intern will support the Corporate or Plant Accounting departments.
As an intern, you will work alongside experienced professionals, gain exposure to accounting systems and financial reporting processes, and enhance your communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that are essential for a successful career in accounting.
Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Prepare financial schedules and reports for internal stakeholders
  • Support variance analysis
  • Utilize Oracle, PowerPlan, and Excel to extract, analyze, and present financial data
  • Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions
  • Contribute to special projects and ad hoc requests

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours) at an accredited university
  • Must have completed at least 60 credit hours toward a major in Accounting
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred
  • Strong analytical, detail-oriented, and organizational skills
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 15 and up to 20 hours per week during the academic year, with availability during regular business hours. During summer break must be available to work a minimum of 30 and up to 40 hours per week.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Requirements

  • Must maintain full-time student status and good academic standing. Failure to meet these academic requirements may result in removal from the internship program

Pay Rate: Salary determined based on candidates experience and qualifications.
