Job Overview

The Product Development Executive Development Program provides early-career professionals with valuable experience and training while jump-starting a career at Macy's. This early career program combines structured workshops with hands-on learning, immersing participants in a collaborative, high-performing environment that encourages innovation and the exchange of new ideas. Based at Macy's corporate offices in New York City, the program offers start dates throughout the year based on business needs.

The Product Development team drives sales growth and profitability through the creation of exclusive private brands. The team shapes the vision for Macy's Private Brands and partners with Sourcing to achieve target final costs and initial markup (IMU) goals. Product Development collaborates closely with the Buying and Sourcing teams to translate design intent into approved samples that meet brand standards for aesthetic, style, and fit while aligning with cost and margin requirements. Key responsibilities include executing assortment strategy and participating in milestone meetings.

What You Will Do



  • Gain professional development through hands-on learning, structured workshops, and collaborative projects.
  • Build strong working relationships with business leaders and colleagues.
  • Assist in managing and tracking meeting samples within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Review sample execution in partnership with the team.
  • Create initial styles in the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Order Management System (OMS).
  • Support preparation for key milestone meetings, including Mid-Point, Pre-Line Review, Line Review, and Post-Buy Recap.
  • Enter assortment purchase orders (POs) and help manage and track them throughout the season.
  • Partner with the Product Associate to update the IMU Roll-Up during the season.
  • Conduct competitive shopping and analyze competitor assortments.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.


Skills You Will Need

Retail Math & Financial Acumen - Apply profitability metrics and business analytics to drive results.

Excel & Systems Proficiency - Use advanced Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, formulas) and tools like PLM/OMS to manage data and processes.

Trend Recognition & Attention to Detail - Identify emerging trends while ensuring accuracy and consistency in execution.

Strong Communication & Presentation - Clearly express ideas, build compelling product stories, and present proposals effectively.

Relationship Building - Develop trust and influence across leaders, peers, and cross-functional teams.

Collaboration & Teamwork - Partner across Buying, Sourcing, Finance, and other teams to achieve goals.

Organizational Agility - Prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Critical Thinking & Accountability - Solve problems with logic and creativity while taking ownership of outcomes.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree are encouraged to apply. Minimum 3.0 GPA required.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
