The primary function of the Turfgrass and Forage Weed Science Lab is to conduct applied research and extension activities that address practical weed management challenges in turfgrass and forage systems. The lab focuses on developing and evaluating novel herbicide programs, precision weed management tools, and alternative control strategies to meet the evolving needs of the industry. |

| Essential Job Duties |
Join the Turfgrass and Forage Weed Science Lab and contribute to applied research and Extension programs focused on advancing turfgrass and forage management practices. This position supports research projects evaluating turfgrass and forage tolerance to herbicides, weed control efficacy, and precision weed management technologies through hands-on field and greenhouse work.
Key responsibilities include conducting and maintaining research trials, applying herbicide treatments, collecting and organizing research data, and assisting with summary reporting. The role works closely with the Principal Investigator to support ongoing research and Extension activities and, following training, may assist with independent research evaluations and outreach efforts. The position also supports day-to-day research operations, including maintaining research plots and operating field equipment used in research activities.
Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to changing research priorities and environmental conditions. The ideal candidate communicates effectively, works collaboratively in a team environment, and is equally comfortable working independently to support high-quality research and Extension outcomes. |

Qualifications
| Minimum Experience/Education |
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
| Preferred Qualifications |
- Background in turfgrass management, weed science, agronomy, or a related field.
- Experience in maintaining field equipment (tractor, sprayer, mower, truck).
- Ability to work independently and with a team under field and greenhouse conditions.
- Willingness to travel within the state based on research needs.
- Experience with research experiments focused on turfgrass, herbicide efficacy, or precision technologies.

| Required License or Certification |
- Have a valid North Carolina State Pesticide Applicator's license or ability to obtain one within 3 months of being hired.
- A valid NC Driver's License and the ability to obtain an NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
- A valid Driver's License must be maintained throughout employment.
