Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's Bedford, NH office is looking for a Water Resources Scientist Intern to join our team for the summer of 2026.

Our Water Resources Team is comprised of both scientists and engineers who work throughout New Hampshire and New England. Our scientists focus on water quality investigations, stormwater regulatory compliance, and stormwater field inspection services. We work with both public and private clients in the municipal, institutional, energy, transportation, and real estate sectors.

Responsibilities

    Perform field investigations including, but not limited to, construction site inspections, water quality sampling of lakes and streams, and stormwater system investigations
  • Prepare daily reports of field investigations documenting compliance status
  • Conduct statistical and geospatial analysis of data using software programs such as R Studio and ArcGIS
  • Provide support for EPA NPDES regulatory compliance programs for construction, municipal, and industrial sources of stormwater discharge
  • Prepare technical reports, charts, and figures
  • Support the development of local, state, and federal permit applications

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail
  • Ability to solve problems and think critically
  • Team oriented
  • Strong data and geospatial analytical skills

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in environmental science, data science, earth science, or a related field
  • No prior internship experience required, but previous internship experience is preferred
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally within New Hampshire
  • Ability to perform field work in adverse weather conditions over uneven terrain
