About the Role
The Director of Finance is a Senior leadership position at Matson Logistics representing finance and accounting. This position directs all Revenue accounting, Accounts Payable, and Credit & Collections, for Matson Logistics and all subsidiaries, by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers. The position will apply understanding of core finance and accounting business processes, enabling support and maintenance of the systems delivering these processes. It is a subject-matter expert and point-of-contact for the finance and accounting functions; ensuring data integrity, controls compliance, testing of system changes and the analysis of data and workflows to further process improvement opportunities. This role is instrumental in the success of key transformation initiatives and will act as a consultative partner for cross-functional business teams. Needs to act proactively to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration.
Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, practices and all applicable federal and state rules, regulations, and laws. Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving department issues.
What you'll do:
- Strives to create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture.
- Develops, maintains, and/or improves accounting processes related to invoicing, cash applications, accounts payable, adjustments, and margin monitoring.
- Develops and maintains the Company's expenditure processes to ensure the timely and accurate payment of vendor invoices.
- Oversee the credit and collection processes to ensure minimal bad debt exposure and timely payment.
- Oversee the cash application function to ensure timely and accurate application of cash.
- Oversee the invoicing processes to ensure timely and accurate invoicing, including working with the operations teams to timely release invoice holds.
- Ensures the quarterly allowance for doubtful accounts analysis and bad debt write-offs are prepared quarterly.
- Oversees the reconciliation and settlement of all intercompany transactions.
- Develops and maintains productivity metrics for the staff and department goals. Implements process improvements and technical solutions to improve productivity.
- Assesses, develops and implements a consistently high standard of internal controls for the accounting group and any acquired accounting groups to ensure compliance with Company policy and external requests such as the Sarbanes Oxley Act.
- Assist with the preparation of all required documentation and support to ensure SOX compliance for MLI and all subsidiaries, including newly acquired entities.
- Develop and maintain documentation for accounting systems administration, including training material, procedures, policies and controls.
- Assists in the financial due diligence and coordination of the integration of accounting functions issues for any acquisitions.
- Review customer contracts.
- Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinates. Provide the department with positive management leadership. Effectively communicate with each employee their goals and provide them with feedback. Reinforce positive behavior.
- Manages accounting and financial staff to ensure effective and efficient recruitment, retention, promotion, and development of the most qualified individuals for each position.
- Serve as finance and accounting technology liaison with HR, IT and Operations stakeholders regarding business process design, data integrity and security requirements.
- Establishes or recommends major corporate economic strategies, objectives, and policies for company to senior management, including recommending modifications to existing corporate programs.
- Coordinates accounting information systems activities and ensures adherence to all applicable Company personnel policies, practices, and procedures, as well as the consistent application of all financial processes of the parent organization, Matson Navigation Company (MNC), in compliance with corporate requirements

And these qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Accounting required
- Seven or more years related experience and/or training
- Previous accounting and supervisory work experience required.
- Proficiency in MS Office software programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and should be familiar with accounting software programs and order processing systems.
- Ability to type and effectively perform 10-key commands.

Other requirements such as travel
- Periodic travel to ensure compliance with processes and procedures, and to evaluate & support staff and processes at other locations.
Extra credit if you have:
- Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent preferred.
- CPA preferred.
- Spanish speaking, preferred.
- Transportation industry work experience preferred.

The annual salary range is posted for this position in Illinois. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
