Description

Pediatric Behavioral Health Outpatient Psychiatrist - Wilmington, NC (Part Time)

The University of North Carolina School of Medicine is seeking a clinical faculty member to practice in our multi-specialty academic practice in Wilmington, NC. This team is part of an innovative partnership between UNC Health, UNC School of Medicine and Novant Health to provide specialty care to children from communities throughout southeastern and coastal NC. The Novant Health - New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NH-NHRMC) facility is a full spectrum community-based, multispecialty practice and a children's hospital that includes a 45-bed Level III NICU, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and inpatient unit.

As a top-tier academic medical center, UNC Children's upholds a four-tiered mission to "CARE," aligning clinical care, advocacy, research, and education to deliver world-class family-centered care. The Wilmington Pediatric Specialty Division is a rapidly growing division offering this exciting opportunity to develop a new Behavioral Health Program. Through the partnership between Novant Health and UNC Children's, NH-NHRMC will become the tertiary care referral hospital for children in Coastal and Southeastern NC. Additionally, there will be ongoing expansion of educational opportunities with medical students, other health profession students, and residents. Though not the primary focus of the center, research opportunities are also available.

The successful candidate will work in a community-based setting to provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders in both a face-to-face clinical setting and via telepsychiatry. This is a fixed-term, open rank, part-time clinical faculty position (up to 0.5 FTE). As the program becomes fully developed, there may be opportunity to increase the amount of time spent in the role. The candidate must be board certified / eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The faculty member may also be expected to develop and perform clinical activities in surrounding outreach locations in Southeastern NC.

The position is based in a terrific community setting with teaching and educational opportunities, while also being connected to a larger academic division in Chapel Hill. Salary will be based on experience and aligned to community-based specialist rates. Incentive compensation will support highly productive providers and meet other targets aligned with broad system goals.

Wilmington, NC is a charming, coastal city of ~125,000 people located in the southeastern corner of North Carolina between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. It is a popular destination because of its moderate, four-season climate, historic preservation district, annual cultural events, and numerous championship golf courses. The historic downtown offers a 1.75-mile River Walk and the nearby Wrightsville, Carolina and Kure Beaches are all within half-hour drives from downtown Wilmington.
