Senior Cost Accountant
Dallas, TX - 4 days onsite (WFH Fridays) | Travel to Houston 1x/month (2-4 days, all expenses covered)


Compensation: $100K-120K base + 14% target bonus

One of Vaco's manufacturing/distribution partners is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join their Dallas office. This role will oversee standard costing across multiple facilities, support 5 distribution centers, and play a key role in driving process improvements, analytics, and financial insights.

This is a highly visible role reporting to the Finance Manager and working closely with the Director of Finance & Analysis. The position offers exposure to manufacturing operations, significant growth potential into broader finance responsibilities, and flexibility with work-from-home Fridays.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and update standard costs for manufactured and purchased products across multiple sites.
  • Analyze cost components, manufacturing variances, and inventory valuations to ensure accuracy in ERP.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and related cost accounting schedules.
  • Support month-end close, inventory reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Partner with finance leadership to drive process improvements and implement best practices in cost accounting.
  • Provide financial analysis to support business decisions, new product costing, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and leadership on costing matters.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred, not required).
  • 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in cost/manufacturing accounting.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment operating with standard cost of products required.
  • Strong understanding of cost components (material, labor, overhead, variances) and product costing methodologies.
  • ERP experience required; JD Edwards preferred.
  • Exposure to analytics and BI tools strongly preferred.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive; able to manage multiple priorities and drive efficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to partner effectively across teams.
