C Technologies, Inc. seeks a Writing Instructor to work closely with and under the supervision of the Program Manager to provide high-quality academic writing instruction and support for university students, enhancing their writing and critical thinking skills.


Summary

The Writing Instructor will deliver engaging instruction and individualized coaching to improve university students' academic writing and critical thinking. The position requires strong collaboration skills, production of original written work, and the ability to leverage a variety of educational technologies.


Responsibilities


  • Provide classroom and one-on-one instruction in academic writing and critical thinking at the undergraduate level.



  • Develop and deliver lesson plans that cover writing fundamentals including organization, structure, grammar, and academic conventions.



  • Coach students in critical thinking, argumentation, reasoning, and evidence-based research.



  • Model and enforce academic standards, including proper citation, paraphrasing, summarizing, and ethical use of generative AI in academic work.



  • Monitor and support students' adherence to academic honor codes and norms for producing original work.



  • Use classroom management software (e.g., Blackboard or Sakai), presentation tools, and originality-check software (e.g., Turnitin or iThenticate).



  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to meet mutual program goals.



  • Produce original written work and continuously update instructional materials to reflect best practices.




Requirements
Education


  • Bachelor's degree in English, literature, journalism, communication, rhetoric, international or public policy, or a related writing-intensive field from an accredited university with a minimum GPA of 3.50; OR



  • Bachelor's degree in another field plus a graduate degree in one of the fields above with a graduate GPA of at least 3.50.



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree in a science, technology, or engineering field are encouraged to apply if they also hold a second bachelor's or master's degree in a writing-intensive field.




Experience


  • Minimum of four years working directly with university students to improve writing or critical thinking skills.



  • At least two years of teaching experience in writing or critical thinking at the undergraduate level; preference given to candidates with teaching awards.



  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and achieve mutual goals.



  • Proven record of producing original written work.




Tools and Software


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, classroom presentation software, and classroom management platforms such as Blackboard or Sakai.



  • Experience with videoconferencing tools such as Zoom or MS Teams.



  • Familiarity with originality-check software, such as Turnitin or iThenticate.




Knowledge and Skills


  • Mastery of English-language academic writing fundamentals, including grammar, structure, style, and prewriting strategies.



  • Strong understanding of critical thinking, argumentation, and reasoning.



  • Familiarity with academic norms, including methods for avoiding plagiarism and conducting evidence-based research.



  • Understanding of academic standards expressed in honor codes.



  • Strong computer skills for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, videoconferencing, and file sharing.



  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
