The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Bed Board Associate is responsible to place patients in the appropriate bed and maintain the accuracy of the bed board system. The Bed Board Associate is responsible to track bed assignments through bed tracking system and to ensure timely and appropriate movement of patients within the hospital. The Bed Board Associate is expected to complete all admissions, transfers, discharges and other service level changes in a timely manner and work closely with clinical staff to obtain correct and timely orders and ensure accuracy of patient s level of care

The Bed Board Associate is also responsible for verifying and reconciling the hospital census and distribution of the census to the appropriate clinical and operational staff. The Bed Board Associate works in conjunction with the clinical leadership in the facilitation of continuous patient throughput from all points of entry and internal transfer. The Bed Board Associate performs all job duties in a professional and courteous manner and demonstrates positive and appropriate skills with internal and external customers. The Bed Board Associate must possess the ability to work with others and maintains a safe environment for patients, staff physicians and visitors.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma required

Preferred:

  • One (1) year experience Patient Placement Coordinator and/or Patient Access Position preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Previous hospital experience in an acute care facility preferred
  • Experience with bed placement processes and systems preferred
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Medical terminology knowledge and computer skills

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Evening/ Flexible/As needed
  • Per Diem

Essential Functions:

  • Complete appropriate bed assignments based on patients sex, diagnosis, level of care and clinical needs
  • Review patient accounts to ensure all information is accurate and all required paperwork is completed
  • Utilize Bed Tracking System to indicate the status of the bed, including the tracking of clean and unclean beds and isolation rooms
  • Escalate delays in cleaning services and/or bed status updates that impact bed use and assignment
  • Utilize the Health Information System to update the patient's level of care, accommodation status, admission/discharge date and time
  • Complete account updates and assignments for observations, admissions, transfers and discharges timely and accurately
  • Ensure transferred patients are financially screened and authorizations obtained prior to transfer
  • Secure completed transfer agreement form prior to transfer including all required signatures
  • Maintain accuracy of Bed Board System and complete daily reconciliation to ensure appropriate bed assignments and accurate patient accommodation types
  • Maintain excellent communication with physicians, clinical teams and environmental services to ensure timely patient placements, discharges and address all issues delaying processes
  • Attend daily bed management huddles; provide status and escalate any issues
  • Work with Case Management to review issues such as level of care, insurance corrections, add missing or added information
  • Takes initiative within work responsibilities, providing feedback or suggesting improvements that can make a difference for quality, safety or service excellence
  • Maintains a high level of accuracy and quality in accordance to the departments established goals
  • Exceeds productivity goals established for the position and department
  • Attends all required training sessions and obtain passing scores
  • Demonstrates competent decision-making skills without management interaction
  • Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of patient information following the HIPPA Guidelines
  • Always serve as patient advocate, provide accurate and timely information to patients, family and visitors
  • Demonstrates ability to work with others effectively both in and outside the department
  • Willingness to be flexible with unplanned assignments as required and applies principles of educations sessions, reads and understands the provisions of the corporate compliance handbook,
  • Strives to meet the highest standards of ethical conduct
  • Knows he/she is required to report suspected misconduct to the supervisor or corporate compliance officer
  • Performs all job duties in a professional and courteous manner, demonstrating positive, appropriate interaction skills with all internal, external customers and co-workers
  • Other duties as assigned
