Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Mayor's Office Fellow will support strategic initiatives and special projects by providing policy analysis, community engagement, and interdepartmental coordination. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in municipal government, with exposure to high-impact projects that support the mayor's priorities. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills, along with a deep commitment to public service.

SUPERVISION:
Reports to: Government Affairs Manager
Supervises: None

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct research, review programs and operations, and evaluate community issues to support the development of informed policy recommendations and implementation strategies.
  • Provide analytical and policy support to the Mayor's Office and other City departments across a broad range of topics.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Mayor's Office and community members, civic groups, businesses, and neighborhood organizations.
  • Represent the Mayor's Office in interdepartmental, inter-jurisdictional, and regional work groups, task forces, City Council meetings, and other public events.
  • Prepare clear and concise briefings, memos, reports, and presentations for both internal and external audiences.
  • Respond to inquiries from the Mayor, City staff, and the public; collaborate with departments to address challenges and develop solutions.
  • Assist in developing and tracking project work plans, goals, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Participate in team and project meetings to inform policy and program decisions.
  • Stay informed on relevant policy trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in public administration.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Local travel may be required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is essential.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current enrollment or completion of a master's degree in public administration, Public Policy, Business Administration or other related field from an accredited university.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Successful passing of a required driving record check.
  • Successful passing of a required background check.
  • Successful passing of a national fingerprint-based records check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The following represent the physical demands that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Drive to offsite locations to perform essential functions.
  • Move throughout City facilities and buildings.
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Communicate with City employees and residents.
  • Work is performed in an office environment.
  • Noise level in the office is moderately quiet.
