Overview

The Assistant Corporate Controller is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the General Ledger Accounting Team and all general ledger related transactions, processes, and procedures. Duties include ensuring the accuracy and consistency of all financial data for the Company, ensuring that accounts are properly reconciled, directing the preparation and timely delivery of financial reports and helping manage the month end/year end close. The Assistant Corporate Controller is also responsible for identifying and preventing discrepancies in financial information and reporting through the design and implementation of strong internal controls.

In addition to the day to day responsibilities of various general accounting and reporting functions, success in this role involves effectively managing all aspects of the general accounting department as well as planning, leading, and executing on various accounting related projects. Projects will include tactical and strategic areas including business process and systems improvements, efficiency initiatives, developing effective reporting and analysis, and expansion activities. This includes working with cross functional resources, building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, and continually seeking mechanisms to streamline and automate processes

Responsibilities

    Manage the General Ledger Accounting team and all aspects of the day to day operations. Monitor all general ledger related transactions and produce financial reporting deliverables, ensuring completeness and accuracy and that all required deadlines are met.
  • Process owner of the Reconciliation Scorecard - Review of critical monthly account reconciliations using best in class templates and techniques for audit support. Understand the flow of transactions within the accounts and ensure timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts. Contribute to the development and improvement of the reconciliation process.
  • Process owner of the Reporting Scorecard - Review and maintain certain monthly reports, quarterly and year-end packages ensuring completeness and accuracy. Oversee timely completion of all deliverables. Contribute to the development and improvement of the reporting.
  • Help manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities. Ensure all accounting teams and functions are closed in accordance with the monthly, quarterly and annual timelines.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls over financial reporting processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain accounting and administrative policies, procedures and systems documentation.
  • Determine accounting treatment of various accounting transactions such as strategic purchases, revenue recognition, and other non-routine events.
  • Act as a key liaison with external Auditors for annual GAAP audit. Lead the audit engagement driving an efficient and timely process.
  • Coordinate activities across different functional teams related to accounting initiatives and successfully influence team members to carry out a project plan. Use sound judgment and provide a process to drive group resolution of issues; clarify points of view and terminology to gain group acceptance; facilitate the actions, decisions, or opinions of others in a positive direction.
  • Review progress of projects on a regular or pre-established basis in order to monitor and assess project status. Present regular overall status updates of projects to key stakeholders.
  • Maintain adequate knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting. Act as the subject matter expert in assigned area of responsibility. Be able to clearly express ideas, information, or concerns with the spoken word; present verbal information in a straightforward manner; ask questions in order to open channels of communication; listen to understand perspective of others.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels. Provide excellent customer service to cross-functional members of the TEC Team.
  • Support cycle of continuous improvement in process and controls. Apply structured problem solving techniques to create robust, enduring process workflows.
  • Manage workload and proactively communicate with Management when there are unexpected challenges.
  • Lead and participate in various projects and ad hoc reporting as needed.

  • Coach, develop, and mentor team members. Provide timely, clear, and constructive feedback. Understand the learning styles and strengths & development areas of each team member to provide appropriate coaching, professional development goals and performance management for each individual as needed. Complete annual evaluations and quarterly one-on-one professional development sessions.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA Preferred.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience, with a minimum of 2-5 years in private industry accounting.
  • Experience within medium to large sized companies that operate in a best practice environment is preferred.
  • Previous experience at Big 4 accounting firms a positive.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP accounting principles.
  • Knowledge and history of applying best practices with regards to general accounting, account reconciliations and reporting.
  • Strong oral and written communication with the ability to successfully interact with accounting, branch operation personnel, and other internal & external partners.
  • Highly driven and solutions-focused.
  • Independent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail while at the same time able to understand big picture/overall strategy & business impacts.
  • Intermediate skill with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to lead in a cross-functional fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to successfully manage direct reports and serve as positive role model in alignment with the TEC Way.
  • Ability to utilize sound judgment in successfully managing ambiguous situations or changes in direction and priorities.
  • Exposure to medium to large sized companies that operate in a best practice environment preferred
