Your Job

Molex is seeking an innovative Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our R&D team. This team is responsible for the conceptualization industry leading high-speed interconnect solutions and products focus on rapidly growing markets in cloud computing, AI, and hyperscale applications. A successful applicant will have the ability to appropriately plan and see assignments through to completion with minimal direction, provide leadership to other team members; develop timing, meet project schedules, manage risks, and systematically solve problems of a complex scope.

What You Will Do

  • Design and develop innovative interconnect products, including high speed connectors, connector cable assemblies, and miscellaneous related mechanical hardware for AI/Cloud applications.
  • Work with external customers to help define new project opportunities and strategize on overall design.
  • Lead new product development, debug, release, and validate product design.
  • Perform engineering analyses and tests and submit product for screen and qualification testing in the reliability lab.
  • Provide technical support to consolidate inputs from Marketing, customers, and external consultants into product concepts and detailed requirements.
  • Present concepts and detailed requirements internally and to customers to obtain support for development of major new products.
  • Follow all product development steps from concept inception, refinement of detailed product design, supply tooling group models and drawings for quoting and tool build.
  • Work with component suppliers to ensure product function, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Responsible for follow-up, documentation, publishing, and expediting all action items of a new product program.
  • Provide technical support to evaluate new materials for interconnect technologies.
  • Interface with internal departments (manufacturing, quality, reliability lab, and marketing), and external suppliers to ensure design objectives are met in a timely manner and assist by providing product information, engineering samples and technical advice.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • A demonstrated ability to learn quickly and make logical, data-based decisions when presented with novel tasks and requirements
  • 5+ years experience in electro-mechanical product design and development with proven technical leadership
  • Proven track record of developing innovative solutions
  • Experience defining, executing, and interpreting design validation plans & reports (DVP&R)
  • Familiarity with defining and interpreting Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Expert in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and concepts within industry
  • Demonstrated utilization of statistical Tolerance Analyses
  • Experience with advanced parametric 3D CAD systems (NX, Creo, Solidworks, CATIA, etc.)
  • Design experience with high-volume products manufactured using a subset of the following processes: progressive die stamping, injection molding, die casting, insert molding, automated assembly
  • Desire to learn, be challenged and interact in a cross functional team environment

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering field
  • 10+ years experience in electro-mechanical product design and development with proven technical leadership
  • History of working within an international organization and/or working with international suppliers & team members
  • Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter
  • Familiarity with correlating simulated results to measured test results
  • Design experience with high speed (112Gb/s+), high density connectors, cable assemblies, and interconnect products
  • Knowledge of regulatory agency testing requirements (UL, CSA, EIA, etc.)
  • Good understanding and practical knowledge of Six Sigma quality development tools and principles (DOE, FMEA, etc.)
  • Experience with design & analysis of compliant mechanisms
  • Understanding and application of sound project management techniques managing projects to timelines, due dates and deadlines
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Minitab
  • Design experience with products manufactured using the following processes: progressive die stamping, injection molding, and insert molding

For this role, we anticipate paying $95,000 - $140,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
