THE ROLE

As the Reliability Lab Manager, you will lead a team of skilled technicians supporting the Reliability Engineering group across projects in various stages of development. This role sits at the center of lab operations - planning and managing the physical hosting of racks, servers, and other project-driven materials essential to program success. You will partner closely with engineers, program managers, and leadership to ensure the lab operates efficiently, supports innovation, and scales with business needs. You are someone who anticipates future needs, works cross-functionally with technical teams, and inspires technicians to continuously improve lab operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage daily operations of the reliability lab, including oversight of technicians and coordination of projects at various stages of development.
  • Plan and manage the physical hosting of racks, servers, and project-driven materials to ensure seamless support for engineering initiatives.
  • Partner with management to anticipate lab growth, establish budgets, and oversee procurement and rollout of equipment and materials.
  • Collaborate with engineers to establish and improve lab procedures, addressing issues and mitigating risks for both employees and customers.
  • Facilitate effective communication across teams by reporting on lab status, capacity, and productivity.
  • Maintain lab equipment and tools, ensuring proper storage, accurate calibration, and adherence to industry and safety requirements.
  • Oversee inventory management of racks, servers, equipment, and components, including disposition of unused or defective materials.
  • Conduct quarterly audits and enforce ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) compliance.
  • Ensure technician and engineering training remains up to date.
  • Partner with facilities to maintain lab security and safety standards.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience managing lab operations or technical facilities, ideally in an engineering or reliability environment.
  • Strong background in coordinating cross-functional teams and leading technicians.
  • Knowledge of equipment calibration, ESD compliance, and lab safety standards.
  • Familiarity with managing budgets, procurement, and vendor coordination.
  • Reliability Testing & Analysis - knowledgeable in accelerated life testing and failure analysis.
  • Lab Operations & Quality Systems - skilled in managing workflows, calibration, and compliance with ISO 17025 and internal quality standards.
  • Continuous Improvement - background in Lean methodologies with a focus on driving efficiency, reducing waste, and improving performance.
  • Leadership & Team Management - experience leading lab teams, mentoring staff, and fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Project & Resource Management - strong skills in managing test schedules, budgets, and lab resources to meet program milestones.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively engage engineers, program managers, and leadership.
  • Black Belt or Green Belt in Quality/Continuous Improvement preferred.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
