Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Construction Quality Inspection Technician to work in our Construction Quality department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) Desert Site facility with every Friday off.

Perform quality control inspections in support of the mission of the facility assigned in disciplines certified. Ensure compliance with approved inspection plans and procedures for the item being evaluated. Provide accurate documentation of results. Maintain required certifications/qualifications to perform duties.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Become qualified and maintain INL Basic Inspector per MCP-13426.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to quality engineering staff on the correct application of inspection discipline and technique.
  • Provide technical support to quality engineering on various experiments, set up and operate a variety of inspection equipment.
  • Provide independent quality assurance inspection and surveillance functions in compliance with policies, procedures, customer requirements, and/or work control plans at INL and subcontractor facilities. Inspections may consist of visual, mechanical, dimensional, and/or other related reviews of products, materials, or drawings.
  • Ensure items are within calibration and suitability for use of the measurement equipment being used.
  • Perform work to instructions provided in inspection planning packages and as directed by management.
  • Provide support in various administrative functions such as non-conformance reporting, tracking, trending, assessment, and records management.
  • Review materials and equipment received or fabricated against purchase/design specifications to ensure acceptability.
  • Communicate clearly any issues found to the quality engineering team.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to quality engineering staff on the correct application of inspection discipline and technique.
  • Assure that work is compliant to requirements by verifying and validating work performed by others.
  • Mentor other technicians as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 4: High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years directly related quality experience.
  • Level 5: High school diploma or equivalent and > 6 years directly related quality experience.
  • Knowledge and skills in one or more of the following building code disciplines: Civil Inspection including earthwork, concrete, and asphalt; AWS Structural; and ASME Mechanical.
  • Knowledge and skills in Nondestructive Examination (NDE) techniques such as Visual Inspection, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, etc.
  • Objective evidence of previous NDE qualification/certification including NDE certification, Training Diplomas, Experience Logs and Education (HS, University etc.) meeting SNT-TC-1A is required. Must display a working knowledge of inspection codes and standards associated with construction.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Preferred Experience:

  • AWS CWI certification.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 4 ($30.17 - $49.78) / Level 5 ($35.30 - $58.23). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires the operation of office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Visual acuity to ensure corrected or uncorrected near visual acuity in at least one eye reading a Jaeger No. 1 at a distance not less than 12 inches or greater than 16 inches.
