The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Under the direction of the manager, the Patient Handling Technician provides patient transfers to all types of patients using appropriate techniques/lifting devices. Documents all patient encounters, as well as verbally communicates with nurses, physical therapists and occupational therapists when needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma, successful completion of department orientation program

Preferred:

  • College Graduate preferred

Scheduling Requirements

  • Shift: Day
  • Status: Per Diem (Based on need of Department)

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in development of daily schedule as directed by his/her supervisor.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new department members.
  • Attends department meetings and in-service as required.
  • Communicates appropriately with supervisors and keeps them informed of issues, problems, concerns. (i.e. patient care, administration, scheduling)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of precautions regarding oxygen tanks/lines, port a catheter, Picc lines, central lines, etc.
  • Demonstrates proper body mechanics while working with patients and equipment.
  • Documents daily, both on the computer and in the logbook, all patient encounters.
  • Maintains adequate productivity levels, as determined by the supervisor.
  • Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfecting of lifting equipment as needed.
  • Performs office tasks as necessary, demonstrates appropriate telephone skills and relays/acts upon information in a timely manner.
  • Performs other tasks as directed by his/her supervisor or the department director.
  • Provides patient transfers to all types of patients throughout the medical center.
  • Seeks guidance from the primary nurse regarding current patient status and relates pertinent patient information back to the RN and/or PT/OT.
  • Understands and implements the patient's weight-bearing and orthopedic precautions, as well as consults with physical or occupational therapists regarding difficult or unusual circumstances.
  • Utilizes appropriate techniques and demonstrates proper use of lifting devices to ensure safe handling of patients. Checks patients for signs of distress following transfer.
  • Works schedule as assigned by the supervisor.
