DEKA Research & Development is seeking a Firmware/Hardware Engineer to join our innovative team. In this role, you'll work at the intersection of hardware and software, collaborating with vendors and electrical engineers to ensure our devices are supported by efficient, reliable, and secure software. From maintaining compilers tools and low-level subsystems to designing test tools and mentoring junior engineers, you'll have the opportunity to make a direct impact on life-changing medical technologies in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
How you will make an impact as a Firmware/Hardware Engineer:
- Collaborate with compiler/linker vendors to keep tools current, report bugs, obtain fixes, assess cybersecurity risks, and optimize new features.
- Partner with Electrical Engineers and hardware vendors (e.g., Texas Instruments, ST Microelectronics) to obtain technical support, track part obsolescence, and identify replacements.
- Contribute to new hardware designs-both products and test fixtures-ensuring software compatibility.
- Design and implement test software to validate new designs and support ongoing product testing.
- Maintain and improve the software build environment, including developing new build tools.
- Support low-level subsystems (schedulers, I/O drivers, etc.) that underpin application software.
- Work on FDA-regulated software for medical devices involving mechanical/electrical systems.
- Mentor junior engineers on best practices in software and hardware development.
Skills you will need to be successful:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Software Engineering.
- 5+ years of relevant experience with proven ability to:
- Read and interpret hardware datasheets and circuit schematics.
- Utilize peripherals provided by modern microprocessors.
- Write efficient software for RAM-limited and power-constrained environments.
- Debug and maintain build environments based on GNU Make, Python, and Perl.
- Analyze and debug systems using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Write low-level software, including assembly when appropriate.
- Understand C++ startup environments (pre-main execution).
