Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Shift Supervisor - Makerspace for MakerSpace Satellite 01.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Maintains a safe and professional environment for the Rutgers Maker community.
  • Ensures that staff are adhering to their tasks and duties, providing a strong customer service environment, and keeping track of equipment maintenance and inventory.
  • Manages day to day operations and assists management in long-term projects or improvements.
  • Provides daily list of tasks or duties that must be accomplished by staff (student workers), usually written out on a weekly basis.
  • Coordinates trainings for new customers by pairing them with available and skilled staff members.
  • Ensures that equipment is regularly maintained or repaired as needed, either by one of the staff or from a professional technician.
  • Supervises different spaces and facilities to keep materials stocked and rooms clean.
  • Finds solutions to improve workflow and training for staff.
  • Conducts staff performance evaluations as needed.
  • Provides technical or maintenance support for the space as needed.
  • Assists customers, troubleshooting equipment errors, and updated Canvas user guides and manuals.
  • Provides assistance to companies in the co-working department that request training or product design advice.
  • Researches new technologies or equipment to expand services offered at the Makerspace.

FLSA Nonexempt
Salary Details $18 - $24/hourly

The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least two (2) years of relevant experience in managing a team; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses
  • A valid driver's license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with one or more mechanical, vocational or technical areas.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage a team and keep them on track.
