The Principal Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) takes on a variety of technical challenges within the Billing Domain in support of non production testing and certification. They play an active role in translating business and functional requirements into concrete work and building test systems in partnership with other technology leaders within the team. They are a core member of the development team and participate in the complete development lifecycle process. They develop, implement, and sustain test automation processes, practices, and controls in support of application and system requirements, development and test activities throughout the software development and sustainment lifecycles. They lead and consult on test automation strategy, requirement, design, implementation and execution. The Principal SDET resources compose high quality, maintainable, and performant code for automated test cases and the frameworks to complete and report them.
A Principal SDET is a practice leader both in practice and coaching across all of the disciplines with influence and contributions across teams, organizations and companies. They are innovating through technology, and practices while establishing and maintaining principles that all SDETs use to drive better outputs in quality, efficiency and performance.

Job Responsibilities: Practice and Innovation Leadership
- Define and drive the overall test architecture, frameworks, and automation strategy across multiple program, projects and platforms.
- Champion a shift-left approach to testing, ensuring quality is built into every stage of the SDLC.
- Contributes to Test Community of Practice to evolve testing practices, quality standards and tools.
- Leads, trains and mentors associate, mid-level and senior SDETs.
Testing (Technical)
- Applies Systems Thinking to test activities to drive improvement into test practices.
- Works with different test teams and ensures alignment to test execution.
- Designs, develops and maintains core test frameworks and automation systems.
- Reviews source code for potential problems; reproduces, debugs, and isolates problems and verifies fixes.
- Analyzes feature and test code using tools like SonarQube to drive improvement in code quality, reliability and maintainability.
- Interacts with IT partner teams and Senior management to shape and align solutions against desired minimum viable product scope.
- Grows and maintains technical skills and expertise through continuing education and training.
Testing (Requirements Gathering)
- Clarifies any ambiguity with requirements, user stories, design and other artifacts produced as part of the product lifecycle.
- Provides technical expertise in test planning, estimation, risk assessment, and defect management.
Testing QA
- Influences and drives quality across teams, fields, and the organization.
- Performs system-wide root cause analyses and drives improvements.
- Leads code review.
- Leads Design and Design Reviews.
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field or the foreign equivalent, and 5 years of progressively responsible post-baccalaureate relevant work experience. (Required)
- Master's/Advanced Degree Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field or the foreign equivalent, and 3 years of relevant work experience. (Preferred)
- 7-10 years Professional experience using 3 or more development languages (e.g., C#, Java, JavaScript, etc.). Desired.
- 7-10 years Professional experience using 3 or more automation tools (e.g., Tosca, Selenium, TestNG, Appium, Sauce Labs, Rest Assured, Postman, Cucumber, Jasmine, Protractor, etc.). Required
- 7-10 years Professional experience with various testing methodologies and strategies: Test Driven Development, Behavior Driven Development, etc. Required
- 7-10 years Professional experience using CA Service Virtualization or equivalent. Preferred
- 7-10 years Professional experience using issue-tracking software and agile project management systems. Required
- 7-10 years Professional experience designing and developing applications on Unix or Windows environment, mobile platforms (Android or iOS) or designing complex multi-tiered applications. Preferred

Base Pay Range: $106,000 - $191,100
Corporate Bonus Target: 20%
The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate's actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.
At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee's eligible earnings in the prior year.
