Department Information
The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University has a student body of 1,200 undergraduates, 260 graduate students, and 70 primary and 73 program faculty. In 2023 US News Graduate Program Rankings placed the department as the #1 ranked department in BME in the United States and our Undergraduate Program as the # 2 department in the United States.

The Markowitz lab is seeking an entry level researcher to participate on research that focuses on research in the cortical and subcortical circuits and how they go awry in neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease. The candidate may be involved in performing measurements of large-populations; using 3D cameras and probabilistic approaches to machine learning additionally, they may participate in assisting with the development of new methods to control activity in these circuits using precision closed-loop deep brain stimulation.

Provide professional level support to a school or research laboratory within the Institute in conducting and reporting results of tests and experiments. Includes coordination of lab testing processes, analysis of data and protocol design. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and research faculty, co-workers. This position typically will advise and counsel: academic and research faculty, co-workers. This position will supervise: NA.

Job Duty 1 -
Compile and analyze tests data and report findings.

Job Duty 2 -
Prepare statistical analyses and maintain related databases.

Job Duty 3 -
Operate or advise in the operation various equipment used in research studies.

Job Duty 4 -
Investigate and propose alternative experiment procedures.

Job Duty 5 -
Participate as directed in experiment design and preparation.

Job Duty 6 -
Participate as directed in preparation of presentations and manuscripts.

Job Duty 7 -
Train in laboratory processes and proper use of laboratory equipment.

Job Duty 8 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Two to three years of job related experience

1. Basic molecular biology: miniprep, PCR, cloning
2. Maintenance of cell lines
3. Essential lab manager tasks: inventory, purchasing

SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge of the principles and practices of scientific and related laboratory operations. Includes skill in data organization, management and evaluation; statistical analysis; project organization; and, use of advanced statistical and scientific computer applications.

Salary range: $34,000.00-$38,400.00
