Position Overview
Essential Job Duties |
The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at North Carolina State University invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral research associate to work with Dr. Joe Sagues in the area of anaerobic digestion.
The position is expected to begin on January 1, 2026, with an initial one-year appointment and the potential for extension based on performance and funding availability.
The postdoctoral research associate will be responsible for conducting and managing research on anaerobic digestion, with a particular focus on biochemical methane potential (
BMP) analysis.
A key objective of this role will be to advance research initiatives aimed at developing a high-throughput organic waste characterization and
BMP laboratory.
The candidate will also collaborate closely with faculty, research staff, and graduate students to foster innovation and strengthen the scientific and technical foundations of this emerging field.

Requirements and Preferences
Work Schedule |
Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with early mornings, evenings and weekends as research needs require |
Department Required Skills |
- The successful candidate will hold a PhD in chemical engineering, biological engineering, agricultural engineering, environmental engineering, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated research experience in anaerobic digestion
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Required expertise includes organic waste characterization, organic waste bioprocessing, and the operation and maintenance of bioreactors
- Prepared to work effectively within a diverse, interdisciplinary team of engineers, biologists, and chemists across academia, industry, and national laboratories.
