Job Summary:

The Personal Lines Account Examiner supports underwriting operations by reviewing and updating new business, endorsements, and renewals. The role applies established guidelines, communicates with agencies, and maintains policy accuracy and service quality. Account Examiners help manage workload efficiency, contribute to process improvements, and provide service to agency partners and internal teams. Responsibilities may be carried out in different ways, including focused review and data-entry work, phone-based interactions with agencies, and, in some cases, limited support for technical issues affecting agency portal access or transactions. Account Examiners work under moderate supervision and operate within delegated authority for routine tasks.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review and update new business applications, endorsements, and renewals for personal lines. Apply guidelines, make routine updates and refer exceptions using assigned authority.

  • Review investigative reports (MVRs, inspections, financials) and provide input to underwriters; take action on routine findings within delegated authority.

  • Evaluate and update policy information including quote support, policy coding, coverage verification, error corrections, and classification, while identifying opportunities for premium growth.

  • Perform responsibilities in different work modes, shifting between detailed policy and data review and phone-based interactions with agencies.

  • Set up new business or renew business applications, coordinate with underwriters for timely quotes, and review quotes for accuracy.

  • Communicate underwriting requirements, status updates, and outcomes to agencies/producers, escalating or referring as appropriate.

  • Monitor workflow, prioritize tasks, and achieve service level commitments for timeliness, quality, and productivity.

  • Provide training and support to new staff; assist underwriters with technical guidance.

  • Support automation, system use, and process improvements; serve as SME for peers and agents when needed. Provide limited troubleshooting of agency portal access and basic product/pricing issues, escalating to IT or underwriting as appropriate.

  • Build and maintain relationships with agency personnel and internal partners.

  • Stay current on regulations, industry trends, and internal processes, sharing updates with team members.

Job Qualifications:

  • 0-2 years of Insurance Underwriting experience.

  • High School Diploma or GED and/or commensurate work experience.
