Position Summary |
The primary purpose of this position is to gather, abstract and report cancer data for all population-based epidemiological case-only or case-control research studies utilizing Rapid Case Ascertainment (
RCA). This position will identify cancer patients at hospitals across the state who are eligible for specific research projects and work with a team of
CCR staff in Raleigh NC to provide quality support for research and cancer control programs in NC. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
The ability to accurately identify and abstract cancer data from pathology reports and present findings clearly and concisely in written and verbal form is required.
Knowledge of computer systems with skills in Microsoft
WORD,
ACCESS and
EXCEL as well as management of data are required.
Certified Tumor Registrar (
CTR) - Oncology Data Specialist - Certified - certification is required.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are required to obtain and exchange information with a variety of individuals. These skills are critical to deal effectively with various levels of hospital and research personnel.
Excellent investigative skills/analytic skills are required.
The ability to orient other personnel in data collection and quality control techniques, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, physicians, researchers, managers, representatives of other agencies/facilities, and the public is required.
Must be able to work independently as well as with a professional team.
While some work may be completed remotely, must be willing to physically report to work at the N.C. Central Cancer Registry (
CCR)
RCA location in Raleigh at the Central Cancer Registry Quarterly meetings, may require travel to conferences across N.C. as needed. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and cancer staging principles is strongly preferred.
Effective time management and organizational skills are valuable. |
