Job Description
The Maintenance Fabrication Technician works with other Facilities, Maintenance and Engineering team members to rig/install equipment, design/fabricate parts, and specify/select materials for fabrication/installation.
This role is critical in managing and executing parts fabrication and repairs in an efficient manner.


Job Duties:


  • Analyzing specification charts, samples, and drawings to gain a thorough understanding of requirements.
  • Measuring and marking materials to develop a layout / template to manufacture parts.
  • Develops/executes a plan for equipment installation and communicates impacts to operations.
  • Setting up equipment required to complete each step of the parts rebuild /modification or repairs.
  • Participating in root cause analysis of failed parts together with other personnel on site
  • Maintaining an up-to-date inventory of consumables, parts and tools needed to fully operate workshop.
  • Operating and servicing maintenance shop equipment, keep up to date maintenance logs, inspections, and other information.
  • Inspecting finished parts for flaws and defects
  • Maintain equipment in the Maintenance Shop.
  • Design machine part replacements and recommend design improvements for implementation.

Qualifications:


  • 5 years of experience as a welder / fabricator
  • Knowledge of rigging for moving moderate loads and plant equipment.
  • Experience in using shop machines including lathes, milling, drill press, hydraulic press, grinders, etc.)
  • Understand both metric and imperial standards of measurement.
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers. Gauges) to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to root cause problems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of metal properties and other materials.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
  • Good mathematical skills and analytical abilities.
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items.
  • Well-versed in technical/engineering drawings and applying equipment layouts to physical plant floor.
  • Experienced working around equipment with moving parts, high understanding of plant safety, equipment LOTO and guarding.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with good ability to interact with technical staff.
  • Good analytical/innovative and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to adjust daily priorities based on plant needs & equipment opportunities.
  • Flexibility to respond to off-hour emergency situations related to plant operations.
  • Able to prioritize & sequence multi-step equipment assembly.
