Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Chief Technologist Radiology ( MRI) for the Brain Health Institute within Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences ( RBHS).

The primary purpose of the Chief Technologist Radiology ( MRI) is to perform imaging procedures for research studies. CAHBIR is a new research-dedicated neuroimaging center that focuses on cognitive and clinical neuroscience research. The candidate will oversee running study procedures and ensuring that all safety procedures are followed. They will also provide oversight for the training of noncertified personnel who are using the scanner. We are specifically looking for individuals who are capable of working a with a wide array of participants, including children, individuals with psychiatric disorders, and elderly individuals with neurological disorders. The successful candidate must be capable of working well with a team and can communicate clearly with a diverse group of researchers who vary in their level of experience in the MR environment.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Perform all imaging procedures according to IRB approved research protocols. This includes operating the MRI machine, ensuring proper positioning of participants, in some cases selecting appropriate scan parameters, and ensuring image quality.
  • Perform routine clinical research protocols, including (but not limited to) administering IV contrast agents, pregnancy screening tests and blood draws.
  • Assist/trains researchers in using auxiliary equipment associated with subject auditory and visual stimulation and motor and psychophysiological responses.
  • Seek out resources to obtain necessary documentation about device safety when necessary.
  • Screen scans for possible incidental findings and ensure that scans that require neuroradiological reads are read by a neuroradiologist and information is communicated to the study PI.
  • Perform routine checks, cleaning and disinfecting the MRI unit, and reporting any malfunctions. Perform scanning of phantoms to provide detailed record of changes in scanner functioning.
  • Coordinate with service providers to schedule repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate participant records, documenting procedures, and managing data related to scans.
  • Maintain scheduling of the scanner and verify scan charges for billing.
  • Update knowledge of imaging technology and procedures. Continually seek to improve the research imaging service provided.
  • Conduct MRI safety training for users (including students, faculty and staff).
  • Teach users how to properly operate the MRI scanner.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Must be a graduate of an approved Radiology Technology Program and an active registered technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a radiology technologist.
  • Two (2) years of radiology lead/supervisory experience.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Must have a NJ State license.
  • Must maintain valid certification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR.
  • Must be certified in the service to which the candidate is applying: a. MRI b. Cat Scan (CT) c. Angiography d. Mammography e. Ultrasound f. General Radiography.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent knowledge of radiography and, RIS and PACS.
  • Annual fit testing.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with good verbal and written English skills.
  • Must maintain a professional demeanor and perform duties effectively in stressful/emergency situations.
  • Must be able to work independently and complete assignment with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research experience.
  • Previous clinical research experience with a focus on neuroimaging.
  • Experience with Siemens scanners.
  • Capable of a flexible work schedule.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (examples: patients, computers and printers, light traffic). Exposure to blood borne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment.
