Job Summary

Involves designing, conducting, promoting, evaluating and supporting health professions education programs in compliance with organizational objectives and nationally accepted accreditation standards and requirements. Supports learners (including but not limited to faculty, residents, clinical fellows, graduate or undergraduate learners, practicing or licensed professionals) in areas such as curriculum, teaching and learning activities, scheduling, core competencies, assessment and evaluations. Coordinates all activities associated with ongoing administration of health professions education programs.

Applies acquired skills, process, and policy knowledge to support professional health education program learners. Coordinates program operations, which include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation.

The Education Coordinator will provide administrative and analytical support to the UCSF Otolaryngology Education
Office. Responsibilities include support to the residency and fellowship programs in concert with the lead Education Coordinator; coordination of 35-40 annual departmental events; coordination of the medical student rotations; coordination of courses in the department's dissection classroom; and coordination in planning educational offerings by individual divisions in the department.

The coordinator will also be responsible for handling all front desk reception activities. Coordinates all receptionist front desk activity including greeting and triaging patients and visitors and all front desk administrative functions, scheduling faculty meetings, and meeting room scheduling activity.

Department Description

The UCSF Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ONHS) at the University of California, San Francisco is a recognized leader in clinical care, research, and education. The Department of ONHS consists of 9 clinical divisions performing ~83,000 procedures including General Otolaryngology; Pediatric Otolaryngology; Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery & Endocrine Surgery; Laryngology; Otology/Neurotology, & Skull Base Surgery; Rhinology & Sinus Surgery; Facial Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery; Sleep Surgery; and Audiology. Outpatient and inpatient clinical activities are performed across 7 sites across the SF Bay area - Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, Zuckerberg San Francisco General, San Francisco VA, Redwood Shores, and Berkeley Outpatient Clinic. The Department of OHNS also consists of 5 research laboratories with ~$11M in sponsored research revenue in FY24/FY25 - Coleman Memorial Laboratory, Speech Neuroscience Laboratory, Epstein Laboratories, Head & Neck Cancer Research, and Skull Base and Cerebrovascular Lab.

The department consists of approximately 50 faculty members and 105 non-faculty academic and staff employees, including postdocs, visiting scholars, clinical volunteers, emeritus faculty and staff volunteers, 25 residents & 4 fellows, with a total annual budget of ~$44 million. The department has experienced rapid growth and has increased faculty by >20% in the last year. Additional recruitment and lab expansions are planned over the next three years.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum of 1+ years of related experience
  • Skills to learn organization-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Basic communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Basic program and project management skills.
  • Good to strong knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems; i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Excellent written & verbal communication
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance & reliability
  • Ability to manage complex schedules and meeting requests

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in organizing educational events
  • Demonstrated accountability, creativity, flexibility, initiative, and problem-solving orientation
  • Some experience working with/tracking budgets
