Adult Protective Services (APS) Supervisor


Department of Health and Human Services

Salary Range: $74,235.20 - $88,400



Job Summary: Under direction of the APS Director, the APS Supervisor is responsible of supervising a team of Human Service Workers responding to calls of risk, safety, and well-being. This position assigns cases, directs workflow, provides guidance, coordination with Corp counsel, completes performance evaluations, monitors purchases, and attend meetings. The APS Supervisor also reviews completed work for soundness of judgement, conclusion, adequacy, and conformity to WI Adm Code Chapter 55.



Job Duties:



  • Assign and monitor Watts/Guardianship cases of Human Service Workers to ensure quality, quantity, and timeliness. Review work for accuracy and completeness. Return work assignments with recommendations for proper completion.
  • Distribute cases to Human Service Workers per their individual identified strength working with various customers in need of services, i.e. State Centers and Behavioral Health customers. Stay informed of policies and procedures.
  • Meet with Human Services Workers to determine status of cases, problems encountered relating to cases, alternative solutions, action steps, appropriate referrals, and guidance in unusual and non-standard situations. Teach and coach staff.
  • Meet with the Court Related Program Manager for problem solving, guidance, and direction.
  • Review and monitor Purchase of Service cases for contract compliance. Communicate with contractors for admissions and discharges of customers. Complete reports and approve payments as needed for contractors.
  • Prepare required documents for performance evaluations. Meet with staff to discuss and monitor performance evaluation goals as well ass provide performance feedback. Document causes for disciplinary action, when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Current resident of the State of Wisconsin
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License able to be maintained throughout employment
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is required. Preferably in a Social Services related field.
  • At least three (3) years of experience working in Social Services is required. Experience with safety/protective services and/or court is preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of supervision experience is required.
  • Social Work Certification is preferred.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Skills needed for success in this role include customer focus, excellent verbal communication skills, patience, ability to write succinctly, professionalism, critical thinking, strong organizational skills, and time management skills. The ability to work collaboratively with other units and organizations within and throughout the county.
