Job Description

The Alumni Engagement Officer plays a vital role in strengthening relationships between the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) and its alumni community. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement, this position is responsible for managing core alumni programs and actively engaging current students and alumni through a variety of initiatives.

Working collaboratively with campus partners, student organizations, and university departments, the Officer leads efforts to integrate alumni into student life, support career development, and promote UMSL traditions. The role also contributes to operational excellence by maintaining data integrity, supporting engagement analytics, and ensuring the effectiveness of alumni programming. As a visible representative of UMSL, the Officer delivers a warm and professional experience across all engagement channels, advancing the university's strategic goals and the growth of the UMSL Alumni Association.

Key Responsibilities

Student & Alumni Engagement

  • Develop and manage signature student-alumni programs including Triton Traditions, Dining with Tritons, Family Legacy Program, and Alumni on Campus to foster meaningful connections.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with campus departments and student organizations to engage alumni in student life through mentoring, networking, and career development.
  • Design and implement transition-to-graduation initiatives, including New Grad Bash, Senior Dinner, and other programs that introduce students to alumni benefits and resources.
  • Maintain and update the list of UMSL alumni-owned businesses; manage inventory and fulfillment of Alumni Passport premiums.
  • Assist in planning and executing alumni events locally and regionally, including developing outreach materials and post-event communications.
  • Coordinate alumni volunteer opportunities and assignments, including CRM tracking and communication with campus partners and volunteers.
  • Oversee the Alumni ID Card process and manage the Alumni Benefits program, including annual research and updates.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the UMSL License Plate program, managing communications and coordination.

Administrative & Strategic Operation

  • Maintain accurate documentation of alumni class notes, congratulations letters, personal interactions, and engagement activities in the CRM system.
  • Manage daily operations for the Offices of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving, including event logistics, procurement, scheduling, and internal communications.
  • Achieve annual performance goals in collaboration with the supervisor, demonstrating progress toward strategic engagement and advancement objectives.

Giving & Advancement Support

  • Support social fundraising (crowdfunding) projects; assist with building and managing giving forms and campaigns using the GiveCampus platform.
  • Contribute to the growth of the UMSL Alumni Association by researching, recommending, and implementing innovative engagement strategies aligned with industry best practices.
  • Support university advancement priorities by performing additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to institutional success.

Shift

40 hours/week. Monday thru Friday with periodic night and weekend work duties

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
  • Possess conceptual knowledge of the Advancement function in a higher educational setting
  • Effective communication skills including the ability to write and speak persuasively about the institution
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and motivational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within the Alumni Engagement team and across the Advancement Division
Anticipated Hiring Range

$53,000 - $58,000
